The finale of the great TV comedy show Blackadder goes Forth.
Back then I didn't expect one of the funniest programmes ever to end with a scene that makes me cry every time I see it.
Every single time.

I have to admit, when I was in law school, 20-odd years ago, the whole "separate sovereigns" doctrine that underlies why presidential pardons do not (as far as current law states) apply to state crimes confused the heck out of me.

It's not completely unimaginable that SCOTUS might decide to axe it.
BREAKING: Trump just issued a blanket pardon for 79 individuals related to the 2020 fake electors scheme, to try and rig the election.

NOTE: He can’t pardon State crimes even if he thinks he can. He’s clearly trying to normalize election rigging for 2026.

If you're angry at the Republicans, vote in the Democratic Primary in 2026.

If you're angry at the Democrats, also, vote in the Democratic Primary in 2026.
the median dem primary voter is livid at Dems right now. the median partisan dem general election voter has no feelings right now but will be livid at the GOP in three months when their healthcare costs are up 350%

Anybody play Europa Universalis V yet, and if so is it any good?

I am shocked, SHOCKED to learn that Trump's healthcare proposal is idiot populism.
After nine years, Trump finally drops his healthcare plan. It's chaos. We'll smash the healthcare insurance system and take money away from the health insurance industry, while replacing it with nothing whatsoever.

I am struck daily just by what an absolutely awful site Facebook is.

Somebody hacked my account last week and 5 days later it still won't let me change my birthday back.

There's absolutely no real moderation anymore.

Full of ads and brainrot/AI slop.

Managing groups/pages is complicated.

Someone go photoshop stills from the courtroom scene in JFK and insert random Subway sandwiches.

Back, and to the left.
Seems like the guy who threw the sandwich at the federal agent is holding his own in the trial today.

I know it's kind of a stupid and sexist question but what is @abigailspanberger.com going to wear to her inauguration? Because Virginia seems to have this peculiar costume for swearing in governors (three piece suit with cravat and a white flower).

A six-inch sub is adequate for most purposes and you can carry more of them, but there's still going to be one old guy who insists "the footlong is the sandwich that won two World Wars" and that six-inch subs lack power.

(Insert "failure to feed" joke here).
It's not in this article but the government asserts that the sandwich was thrown at "point blank range", which implies subway sandwiches have defined effective weapon ranges of varying lethality, and I would like to see the government's chart of these ranges.

Politics is not rocket science.

Politics is community theater with consequences.

(Yes that's me in the donkey costume).

Trump is exposing the fact that the current shutdown exists because Republicans went too far with the "One Big Beautiful Bill" that they passed a bill on a 51-50 margin (JD Vance had to get off the couch to break a tie), and refuse to do the work to earn 60 votes for the follow-up budget bills.

Eating a big ol' bag of popcorn right now.

Because the "less insane" Republicans know exactly what Democrats would do without the filibuster in place, the next time we're in power.

This is how the GOP cracks up, btw.

I haven't been able to find the Texas Tylenol lawsuit complaint anywhere yet (it's probably on PACER). But a few thoughts:

* State AG offices have been pretty good at extracting settlements out of Pharma.

* Even if the suit is baseless, Kenvue/J&J may settle just to get rid of the nuisance.

the democratic party’s basic problem is it has almost no control over how its message reaches the ears of voters, especially outside of presidential election years. but rather than devote serious time, attention and cash to that problem its consultants and pundits want to fight factional battles

If you don’t think a human being should receive an adequate amount of food for literally any reason, you’re a bad person and you should repent. At a minimum you should dispense with any type of claim of following Jesus. There was no questionnaire at the feeding of the 5,000 to determine worthiness.

Food insecurity is ALWAYS a political choice. Famine is ALWAYS manmade. People go hungry because of other people’s decisions. We have more than enough food for everyone, and enormous amounts of it are wasted—literally thrown in the garbage—on purpose.

The Constitution is not self-enforcing.

The only thing holding our Republic together are our norms.

And the only thing that enforces those norms is The People.

No one is coming to save us.

It's entirely up to us.
