ZERO.

The lack of turnover in the Trump admin in even these highly messy visible mouthpiece roles really implies to me that the people in the admin don't actually think they have a place to land after the admin.

For today's ispost that is going to certainly get me yelled at because it isn't properly oughtposting:

These jobs are incredibly high stress, long hours, and kind of thankless. You take them to position yourself to take something nicer- like a lobbying gig. I'm surprised we've seen so few exits.
Breaking Politico:

Tricia McLaughlin, DHS Secretary Kristi Noem's spokesperson and a known spreader of disinformation, is expected to inform colleagues Tuesday that she's leaving DHS.

This is insane doom porn lmao.
One of my biggest fears about the midterms is that ICE could flood the polls with agents who perform Kavanaugh Stops on every non-white person before they get a chance to cast a ballot, then detain them until voting is over. Which is not far-fetched at this point. www.huffpost.com/entry/ice-po...

People literally think they're going to just what, ziptie the people on the street in front of the polling place? And that this is somehow going to work?

The reason why the ICE shit is so stupid is because of two things:

1.) ICE arrests a single person with multiple people.

2.) If you do a Kav stop and detain someone, you will require the agents to leave the area to detain the person.

Yeah this is kind of key. There isn't really an executive order that the president can sign that meaningfully changes election administration. Basically what he can do is direct the FEC to work with states to change things (or something) and maybe impose penalties somewhere if they don't?
President Trump keeps threatening to unilaterally impose rules (like voter ID requirements) on upcoming elections.

Today's "One First" explains why, whether as a matter of constitutional law, existing federal statutes, or simple, practical logistics, his (ominous) threats are ultimately empty ones:
210. The President's Lack of Power Over Elections
President Trump keeps insisting that he can unilaterally change the rules for voting in the midterms. It's not just that he's *wrong*; it's that there's no mechanism through which he could even *try.*

An EO that says "hahahaha, I am the law! you must do this!" will be.. ignored. And when the DOJ sues to enforce, it will be thrown out.

there also aren't nearly enough feds and they've already done this. they already sent election monitors in the '25 elections in NJ and CA, and it accomplished nothing.
The big issue is trump judt sending in feds to do it on election day and the judocial order not coming in time to stop anything, except with early voting and mails in this probably wouldnt do anything and shouting about election chaos wont do what you want when your the guy obviously causing it.

And before you doomer or w/e, there are already multiple EOs that Trump has signed that states (including GOP run ones!) have gone "lol no" to.

The only mechanism in that case to enforce the EO is DOJ suing.

The federal government has almost no meaningful authority over election administration - and what it did have has been chipped away by a.. friendly supreme court that wants to advance state supremecy.

It cannot order states to "count it this way, instead of that way" There is no enforcement.

One of the real problems of the rhetorical obsessions with this website is that it ignores the mechanisms of how things actually work. EO's do not make law, they tell Agency X to interpret Statue Y as Z. The president can tell -the federal government- what to do to follow the law.

This is going to be a dog catches car moment, because a more serious EPA under the next administration is going to promulgate a new rule that's more serious than the last one.
true, and: it really doesn’t help matters that major media outlets reinforce this perception in headlines like this

tl;dr and thank you for coming to my Ted Talk: The problem with EOs isn't that the president can't proclaim wild shit in them (they've tried) - it's that when the EO is targeting things the federal government doesn't run, it's all about -enforcement- and the mechanism by which the EO is enforced.

IT's also worth noting this decentralized election administration is very much an American thing and is part of why Europeans struggle to understand that the president and federal government can't just "cancel elections"
