I regularly see people wondering how it's possible that there are so many musicians and writers and film makers and artists from a tiny nation like Iceland.

And the answer is really simple: State funding for art education and artists. I literally get a salary from the government to write books.
I’m constantly astounded at the sheer level of artistic production coming out of Iceland. Novels, movies, music. Amazing.

Cryptographer Juanita Moody helped avert a nuclear war.

She played a pivotal role during the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962, where her leadership in signals intelligence (SIGINT) helped provide critical, real-time information to US decision-makers. Moody died #OTD in 2015. #WomenInSTEM

We are at an airport restaurant. A robot just drove up to us with our food, said, "Hi! Here I am!" and then drove away with our food.

Ongoing discharge.
7 metre swells - ongoing discharge of untreated sewage - tens of millions of litres per day of raw sewage into the Cook Strait - in windy conditions, there's a risk sea-spray containing bugs could cause illness… a literal shit storm 💩
Seven metre swells possible as severe weather to hit Wellington
Wellingtonians are being warned to stay off south coast beaches as severe southerly winds and heavy rain strike the region.

The Warehouse. Hides things I want, downloaded the app to find them in their store, full account details and location permissions. Sorry, we don't have those here. Walked past a shelf full of them on my way out.

An old friend has asked me to visit. Their increasingly extreme politics and conspiracy mindset is intolerable. This shouldn't be such an ordeal.

If I left for the village 6km away at 05:30 Zulu, at 15⁰C ambient with a Pomeranian dog sled team of six, how many reindeer tongues per hour would be needed to complete the journey?
