“Get a signed Brendan O’Neill book!” is a powerful threat
I wonder what part of lower bills, tax billionaires they're panicking about most?

Cry harder.

Doesn't seem like that much of a mystery. Most of the voting intention flight has been to Lib Dems and Greens. This means most people who might vote Labour have an interest in at least the appearance of liberal values, which tis not anti-immigration, anti-protest, anti-trans, anti-education policy.
Glad the FT is asking the question. Even if I’m not convinced they found a compelling answer.
I get that Starmer & Reeves are unpopular, I really don’t understand the extent of the dislike.

Just cos something doesn’t solve all your problems doesn’t mean it isn’t worth doing. Like renewable energy. If it doesn’t solve climate change, all we’ll have done is produced cheaper energy and reduced the outsized influence of fossil fuel companies… for nothing!
Ooh, he's actually on here…

Joe, you make out in this oddly substance-free interview that @zackpolanski.bsky.social thinks that a wealth tax will pay for "everything"; obviously this is untrue.

As pressure from the Greens mounts, what will Labour's eventual wealth tax look like?

Not the easiest of days but everyone got through it. It was a lovely, fitting tribute to a genuinely terrific human being.
Miss you mate.

I once told a family member that multiple studies in different countries have shown that just directly giving poor people money a) lifts them out of poverty effectively and b) costs less than welfare systems that keep people treading water and he was like 'nah that doesn't feel true'

We have so much good evidence for cash transfers but so many just refuse to accept that those in poverty can make good decisions.
Spoiler: They used the money just as wisely as anyone else would, and it's so frustrating that this still isn't a common sense assumption to make.

I am begging everyone on here to read this new post by Bryan Johnson — the super rich tech guy who is now doing the “never die” protocol.

I need to talk about it with you all.

It's good to amplify this message whenever possible. The voices that drown out real issues with scapegoating and hatred really are a minority (as we see whenever it is put fairly to the test in e.g. WI or National Trust votes...neither notable hotbeds of leftist social liberalism).
We are now at 75k signatures, with many messages of support on Instagram, Facebook and here.

This is a genuine groundswell of love over hate, and a call to focus on the real harms faced by women and girls.

Thank you all who’ve signed and shared. Let’s keep it going 💜

People 300 years ago thought we'd never live in a world without kings.
well we're never going to live in a world without billionaires so it's probably a good idea to think about actual possible ways to mitigate the damage they can cause
You cannot have witnessed the events of the past two years and still believe "billionaires existing" is compatible with democracy.

I already agree with this in principle - citizenship is an untouchable status or it is nothing - but also for reasons of prudence. “The Home Sec can revoke citizenship when he/she deems someone’s online output sufficiently offensive” is a v dangerous precedent to set with Reform leading all polls.
Hell, I'm not convinced we should revoke citizenship at all.

But certainly not for being a twat online.

The last few days did not move the main story forward AT ALL. It's just a guy eating little treats and doing nothing. And so many plot holes. He says, "no more little treats," and then he's eating another little treat in literally the next scene.

What an excellent book, I really enjoyed reading this, and could barely put it down @abeewords.bsky.social

Would very much recommend if you enjoy murder mysteries with ghosts and dark millennial humour, plus there is wrestling.

Such a good book.
