..two uniformed officers approached him on the boarding ramp, and one took his photo.

“I was aghast. I felt ambushed,” said Shepell, a noted Canadian psychologist.

He says the men never explained who they were or why he was photographed.

“They didn't tell me anything, and I just feel violated.”

No one deserves to die for offensive speech, nor illegal (e.g. hate speech). Political violence leads to more political violence (clearly).

BUT people need to own and be responsible for the impacts that words & influence have on society. You can't toss a grenade and ignore the consequences.
I recommend everyone watches this

This is a piece of brilliance, and my copper electrons still work.
I said something similar in… checks notes… 2002. I’ve been playing this game too long. And mostly losing, it seems. www.theregister.com/2002/08/09/d...

my union (PEA GLP) has proposed language around AI to address things like decision making in our latest CA negotiations. The employer said no. The PSLR Act has language around providing written notice around technological changes and collective bargaining.

I'll strike to stop race to the bottom.
It's a good time to re/read "Necropolitics" by Achille Mbembe because Foucault doesn't go far enough for what we are witnessing everywhere.

This and Mbembe's work on borders is more relevant every day.
“The procedures will be reviewed by AI for coverage determinations, although final decisions will be made by people. The companies contracting to do the review process will receive payments when they reduce costs, essentially being incentivized to deny service, critics say.”

welp, as a very left of centre gal for life, super empath, socialist type, I just got blocked by someone whose posts/thoughts I really loved.

I also love data and I hate memes that simplify laws and data, especially in the current days that we are in where polarization gets us no where.

If you're Canadian, it's a short and sweet pre-budget survey. And gives you options to write your own "other" recommendation, to counter the very conservative-leaning options that the Carney gov't provides.
The government of Canada has a questionnaire about it's new budget. Most of the given options are conservative (because this is a conservative government) but there are some that aren't, and you can write in your own responses.

Per the USMCA (which Trump signed), dairy has a tariff rate quota (TRQ). Anything within the quota is tariff free. Anything over can see tariffs up to 315% (not 400). Again, signed off by Trump. To date, dairy has never exceeded TRQ = no tariffs.

And to date, no quota limits have been breached.
