After years of Tory failure to sort out our prisons Labour are fixing them.

They have taken urgent action to sort out the prison places crisis and are investing in 14k additional places to ensure we don't face it again.

And here we see work has started on a 1,700 capacity prison in Leicestershire!

No doubt there will be criticism again this year.

Either saying too many people get it this year, or that too few got it last year (even though we didn't see the 1000s of pensioners freezing to death like they claimed: the media would have been all over even one such occurance if it happened).

The BBC are now reporting that the PM has gone even further than what Robert Preston said yesterday.

Peston said he had been told it was all about someone on No10 answering journalists questions, not instigating briefings.

The UK PM had an important call with the EU President yesterday.

They discussed the ongoing progress to implement the ambitious package agreed at the UK-EU Summit in May & reaffirmed their commitment to move forwards rapidly to have a broad & constructive relationship that delivers for both sides.

Fgs @mrjamesob.bsky.social never mind what nonsense the Guardian is printing about Wes Streeting, watch his flipping interview with Sophie Ridge. He was scathing about these reports, comparing it to an episode of traitors. And 40 out of 400, give it a flipping rest.

And that is the issue with all this absolute crap - it leads to real problems for the country and for people.

It reminds me of the people who made bad and irreversable decisions to their pensions last year after the media speculated on what would be in the budget.

We are all victims of the media.

So this is interesting from Robert Peston.

The claims of people inside No 10 briefing the press about the PM fighting for his leadership appear to be wrong.

As I speculated this morning, it appears to have been nothing more but a response to a question from a journalist!

Well have a nice, if cantankerous day in here folks.
It's worth remembering that a centrist govt will always be attacked from both the left & right in equal measure.
Nothing if not predictable.

Two of the mis-steps people say Labour took are the changes to WFP and PIP. Before the policy was implemented the Government changed tack. Nobody lost a penny but many have benefited from the raise in minumum wage, free breakfast clubs and free additional childcare hours. Let's talk about that eh.

I try to bring some balance to the site.

I’m continually confounded by the media & people who fall hook, line & sinker for their spin.

Labour is repairing it and will do more and go further.

But don't for one minute try and pretend it's an easy job and somehow Labour are failing to do enough.

People who think we can just go and rejoin the EU whenever we want, take note.

The business secretary (and former science secretary) here is explaining just some of the huge challenges the UK has faced in trying to repair our reputation with the EU.

🚨Business and Trade Secretary, Peter Kyle:

🇪🇺"We are ready to run fast with the EU, but the EU needs to run faster in coming to the table."

⏱️"It's not just a question of the UK not being prepared to do things. We also need the EU to go faster in certain cases as well."

I support Sir Keir Starmer.

He is our PM and must remain as PM.

This speculation about his future needs to stop.

The media have it in for him and he is actually doing a bloody good job.

School attendance

In their 1st year, Labour efforts saw school attendance in England increase by 5.3m days, with 140k fewer persistently absent pupils.

The state of attendance they inherited was abysmal. It has improved. But it's not enough.

So they are launching a new attendance roadmap.

Reinvesting in the NHS

The next phase of merging NHS England directly into the DHSC has been given the go ahead.

This alone is expected to lead to £1bn in savings per year, which will be reinvested into front line health services.

This is on top of a record £29bn increase in health funding.

Morning all.
I'm out today with my wonderful grandson, & I can see from the headlines that I won't be sorry to be otherwise occupied!
Who is supposedly trying to oust Starmer as PM, & why ffs? The Burnham & Powell brigade or just the shit stirring media, or indeed both?
Enough of this garbage.
