To any one still harking on about a generic (but unworkable) wealth tax and the £10-15bn it might raise (it won't btw)...

...while you've done that, in 2 Budgets Labour have found over £65bn of tax rises annually, heavily skewed towards the wealthiest in society.

This is sensible, workable...

What a great Budget.

A great Labour budget.

Here's the first 3 minutes our of brilliant Chancellor's speech, setting the scene!

Couldn't be happier right now with our Chancellor and our Labour government.
November 26, 2025 at 5:22 PM
Well, after so many weeks of speculation, mud slinging & total MSM negativity, in reality this budget was almost a damp squib.
A couple of dodgy bits, there always are, but also some popular moves.
Typically, the latter mostly overlooked by MSM in favour of crystal ball borrowing & tax projections.
November 26, 2025 at 7:24 PM
Sam Coates was so worked up he couldn't sit on his chair properly.
Beth Rigby was focussed on telling Reeves she needs to resign... not sure why tbh, was she?
Sophie Ridge did actually read out the budget announcements, then her colleagues did a graph grandstand on predicted borrowing til 2029 🤔
November 26, 2025 at 7:16 PM
Beth Rigby asks how can Reeves stay in her job.
Quite easily imo. The budget was fair & relevant, affecting the more wealthy without major tax rises.
I'd like to ask Rigby how she thinks she can stay in her own job since her unbiased reporting skills have deteriorated dramatically.

Look at the impact the OBR early release of their Budget report has had on the market.

The morning 'peak' was just before the leak occured. Then a big drop.

The bottom of the trough? 12:35pm - the minute the Chancellor got to her feet and started speaking.

It's risen steadily since then.

You want a summary of the really positive news and excellent measures in the budget?

Then read this summary.

Then tell me this Labour government is in any way bad, chasing Reform, no different to the Tories or won't do what is necessary to help people and the country!

Strong foundations, secure future: a Budget that delivers on the country's priorities
Rachel Reeves sets out a Budget that delivers on the change promised by the government to cut NHS waiting lists, cut debt and borrowing and cut the cost of living.

New powers to pursue tax avoidance 10 bn to be recovered.

Plus 400 million recovered from dodgy Tory Covid contracts

Better with Labour 👍

Sam Coates is miffed because Reeves' no. 2 gave him an answer he didn't like.
I haven't got the the will to hear Rigby or Mason's versions yet.
To me it doesn't look too bad.
Maybe the EV mileage thing is a bit dodgy, & the limit on private pension payment, which I think is supposed to encourage
November 26, 2025 at 3:35 PM
So..the budget.
It actually looks ok to me, though I don't know how the EV mileage thing will work.
Sky News is currently concentrating on forecasts for borrowing, the deficit & tax right up to 2029 rather than anything else.
Farage doesn't like it because it affects his rich mates.
Can't be bad.
November 26, 2025 at 3:27 PM
Chris Mason's pre budget forecast.
"This govt is extremely unpopular.
Reeves & Starmer are also extremely unpopular'.
No mention of the rise in the minimum & living wage just announced of course.

Our Labour government ARE taxing wealth.

They ARE making the wealthiest in society pay more.

They did it in the last Budget & I expect more tomorrow.

Anyone who says it's not happening is lying to you.

Anyone who promotes phrases like 'tax billionaires' with no details is selling false hope.

Carer’s Allowance overpayments

Since 2015 over 200k carers were overpaid due to complex rules around what income they were allowed to earn.

The DWP demanded payments back - often for thousands of pounds covering the full allowance.

Labour ordered an Independent Review in October 2024.

So the cost of living isn't perfect after only 15 months (was never going to be). Too many hard choices to make re the economy & immigration.
Starmer hasn't solved all this yet so 'Starmer out' & I'll swap to a new, populist party in protest 🙄.
And the issues above will still be just the same.

Since Labour won power, an insidious little phrase has been popping up constantly in the media: "tax raid".

So I looked into this for @thenewworldmag.bsky.social

And it turns out it once meant something completely different.

Why the right wing media keeps screaming ‘tax raid’
This isn’t journalism, it’s propaganda that reframes tax policy as assault and a democratically elected Labour government as thieves

+ £300m for NHS technology to support the work of staff and boost productivity (a 2% productivity increase could see £17bn in annual savings reinvested)
Chancellor to double down on drive to cut NHS waiting times and rollout of new Neighbourhood Health Centres
250 Neighbourhood Health Centres to bring patient care closer to home and bring end to postcode lottery of healthcare access.

It still hurts me to see the damage the Tories did to our NHS over the years, especially when I look back at where it was when Labour left office in 2010.

It will take time to properly fix our NHS, but Labour has done it before and they doing it again. Here are just some of the ways it's happening!
