You may have missed this gem yesterday. From which we learn that:

1. Betting shops are really good for the mental health of isolated people.
2. Most drug-takers are not a problem.
3. Kids put tuppence in slot machines in the hope of getting rich.
4. Farage probably has a gambling industry donor.

Yes the BBC edit was poor journalistic form but the research indeed shows that Trump's speech predicted riots, violence, and weapons use on January 6th.

The Finnish far right has been trying their damnedest to do the same for the most trusted news source in Finland, the Finnish Broadcasting Company (Yle).

Due to #Finland ‘s geopolitical situation, in the age of infowars that is mindboggling strategic stupidity, if not outright fifth-columnist.
A single shared source of truth is essential for a functioning democracy.

Without it you’re left with fragmentation, polarisation and a perpetual culture war where the discourse focuses on what divides us rather than what we have in common.

Why American-style polarisation is spreading across the west
New research shows how incentives in the modern media ecosystem help explain rising division and negativity

When Boris Johnson was Prime Minister one of his senior advisers confided to me that one of the only things in politics his boss actually cared about was “killing off the BBC”.

Five years on, and it is a campaign that appears to be finally coming to fruition.

By attempting to appease those forces seeking to destroy them, the BBC has helped trigger a crisis that now threatens its very future, argues Adam Bienkov

The whole mechanism, how the Board is appointed is political & unfit for a state broadcaster. Why aren't the devolved governments involved .. why is it just Westminster? Scotland lost the trust of the BBC because it pushed the Westminster agenda ..

Most of the print media is owned billionaires, who have used their papers to distract people from the real causes of social problems by instead focusing public anger towards immigrants and minorities.

Now the billionaire owners of social media giants are doing a similar thing with their algorithms.

Ukraine is better at investigating & pursuing corruption than the UK. .. Oh and that's while simultaneously fighting a full scale russian invasion.

If only we had a UKGOV that was actually really interested in democracy, and how media & dark money distort & Corrupt government..
Maybe Keir should demand the heads of major US news networks any time they imply Britain is on the brink of civil war or that we live under sharia law. Or does it not work both ways?
November 10, 2025 at 11:43 AM
Unbelievable that we STILL have a UKGOV whose stated objective is to "make Brexit work" .. the only way you can consider Brexit working is if you wanted to destroy democracy, the economy and society and succumb to the oligarchy & techgarchy. russia loves Brexit.
Headline from a serious and long working paper on the economic impact of Brexit. Possible that this has been feeding into OBR and HMT discussions?

Davie resigned for the wrong reason ..
I do like how, in the bit of Prescott's memo where he criticises the BBC for editing together different parts of Trump's speech, his own quote of "what Trump actually said" is... edited together from different parts of his speech.

Appeasing extremism 101 ..
The BBC is tearing itself apart to appease publications and politicians who want to see it die.

An absolutely kamikaze approach to running a media organisation. I can't see it ending well.

Let this sink in.

All of a sudden students have started to disappear, only to turn up dead somewhere. We get new missing student every week or two.

Crime scenes were made to look like suicides, but their families know that this wasn't the case.
