Daniel Hedinger is one of the sharpest scholars of fascism. I don't think his book, Die Achse, has been translated but he has several journal articles in English.

I truly hate the CAQ government.

I suppose the question now is not who is on the list but who isn't.

True but did the Poles think otherwise. My guess is that Poland hoped to wage their own version of a long war, into 1940, which would then place mounting pressure on Br and Fr to do something concrete.

Absolutely, the long war strartegy proved to be the winner. But before winning a long war, you have to avoid losing a short one. I do think the long war perspective, for the French at least, became a way of avoiding some pressing queston in the short-term.

Kevin Passmore has a great new book on the Maginot Line.

A younger Woody Allen could have done so much with this material.
My new book — Humanitarianism: A Very Short Introduction — is now available as an e-book (paperback in March 2026)! The book offers a concise history of humanitarianism in an international perspective, from the 18th century to the present. More info here: global.oup.com/academic/pro...

Rodriquez's days are probably numbered but the PLQ is rotten to the core. For the PLQ there are no public goods separate from the interests of its donors. The idea that it ever stood for the "normalcy of peace and social justice" is hilarious.
I second this. Fair or unfair, the optics are too bad at this point and Rodriguez must go. I’m sure it’s a matter of days if not less before he resigns. Lots of solid options to replace him.

In 1982, Hayek wrote a letter to Thatcher, suggesting that the UK should follow the example of Pinochet's Chile in implementing radical market reforms. Thatcher's response is quite telling.

I just watched Train Dreams and there is something really striking about the banalized violence across US history. I'm not saying the US is alone in this but there is something disturbing about its rampantness.

For me, reading Mueller is always worthwhile. But I fear that the underlying argument, liberal/electoral democracy has its problems but is better than any alternative, isn't enough if it doesn't address more squarely social-economic inequalities.
