Is there a threshold windspeed that could be widely considered outside the modeled domain for most currently available predictive models (for wildland)? I’m wondering whether the urban and wildland models might break together even if they don’t work together?

As we have a mountain between us and the direction of the wind we've currently only hit a gust of 59kph thus far. And high of 22.5kph windspeed in general. It's tapering off now. But I have to say it is bizarre to be at 14c in December.

Placing bets on the top windspeed of a hurricane obscures both the systems that produce the hurricane and the downstream effects that event causes on people, ecosystems and capital itself.

Being good at math is something real-world sharpshooters need to be, taking into account things like distance, windspeed, gravity, and even the earth's curviture.

Gun kata is...something else entirely. XD

A wind blowing at 34-40 knots for 36 hours will produce a 14-second swell period and waves of around 37 feet.

It is ‘furniture walking across the deck’ windspeed at present and ‘stay inside’ air quality.

I managed to not talk about Trump 2.0 from Thanksgiving morning til this afternoon. My family threw me chum, tho. From "Military has to follow all orders, to glad to know Tylenol causes autism."
WTH. STFU.
Retort windspeed is 65mph. Watch out

Extremely sensitive windspeed indicator.

The previous website allows you to choose units for windspeed - some people need it in knots or Beaufort.

But the new website only has mph ☹️

#HurricaneMelissa reached Jamaica as a category 5 with windspeed of 185mph. Climate change increased windspeed by 7% & extreme rainfall by 16%. 5 days of pelting rain is now 30% more intense & 2x as likely because of climate change. #Adaptationhasitslimits

Verify first, then mistrust is the way to go. NWS says high winds are anything above 25 mph. Sunday's windspeed in DC was between 13-16 mph, which is classified as "breezy."

So, no, there weren't high winds in DC on Sunday that would cause the flag to be lowered into a special container. 🙄

highest windspeed ever recorded on Earth was recorded at the top of Mt Washington. AND yet you can take a cog railway, or drive your car, to the summit in the summer! the incongruity is part of the danger: people don't expect a place so accessible to be deadly

Me looking at the temperature drop between today and tomorrow: oh fuck no

I get emails asking, “why aren’t you writing??”

It’s like skydiving..

When I jumped out of a plane for the first time, my brain was in shock at free falling into nothingness, while being hit by air pressure + windspeed.

I couldn’t process what was happening.

That’s been the last few weeks.
