Thebes, an oldie, but entertaining game. Very push-your-luck with trying to grab treasures from a bag. Some people may be turned off by the theme of artifact hunting. "It belongs in a museum!" #bgg #boardgames #brettspiele

Hell, we don't even need to look at mythical heroes; the Sacred Band of Thebes is a great real-life example of same-sex male lovers.

Proto-Corinthian Aryballos, c.640 BCE. The “MacMillan Aryballos” is a perfume bottle with a lion-head mouth, attributed to the Chigi Painter. The bottle takes its name from a former owner, Malcolm Macmillan, who gave it to The British Museum in 1889. It was made in Corinth & found in Thebes, Greece.

I’ve opted for today because some of the papers (including the Bristol Mercury and Daily Post, pictured here) reported on 11 February 1890 that the sale was “yesterday”. Elliott thinks there were two sales, one possibly in late January, but it looks likely that there was one on 10th

The "Death of Dirce" depicts the story of two brothers strapping Dirce, a queen of Thebes to a rampaging bull, as punishment for her being mean to their mum 👍🏛️🍑 #MuseumBums

My view has started to become that the Internet has sort of bifurcated, so that you have the whole universe of constant soulless branding and "content" churn, but there are lots of places where insight, art, and community are still valued.
