Tarāpunga (red-billed gulls) are now nesting on Armagh Street where the tarāpuka (black-billed gulls) used to.
They are very distinctive. These photo’s were taken at lake Wanaka. There are two types of seagulls native to New Zealand the red billed gull (Tarāpunga) and the black billed gull (Tarāpuka).

Another juvenile black-billed gull (tarāpuka) who can't keep his beak shut! :) #birds #AoNZ #Whakaoriori Really loving these juvenile gulls. Gives me hope for this endangered species! There were 17 gulls of which at least half were juvenile.
