#sysupgrade

OpenBSD 7.8 has been released.

First sysupgrade performed - everything smooth as usual

Happy release day!

sysupgrade完了。あとはpkg_add -uだけ。寝ている間に終わってるかな。

カーネルだけ7.8にビルドしていたおかげで割と深刻な問題が出ていたから、(フライング気味なのはちょっと申し訳ないが)sysupgradeでアップグレードさせてくだしあ…

the openbsd folks warn against doing sysupgrade without installing the X sets, unless you know what you're doing, and, well,

Heads up: #OpenBSD snapshots are rolling out shortly for some architectures (e.g: amd64) that are post-7.8 release, -current, be aware. If you sysupgrade -s now, downgrading to the 7.8 release when it releases later this month is NOT supported.

OpenBSD Tip Of The Day, in case I ever have to troubleshoot this again: if running pkg_add, sysupgrade, etc. fails with “TLS connect failure: ssl verify memory setup failure”, it's probably because /etc/ssl/cert.pem got borked somehow. Thanks to this random misc@openbsd.org thread for the tip.

ていうかさあ、sysupgrade -sでアップグレードする度にUKCからいじる、ってプロセスが要るじゃんよこれ…(i386の-currentを使いたいので)。

anyway the company makes a point in explicitly advertising tinkering possibilities and goes so far as providing a signed bridging image of openwrt you can flash with the stock firmware update tool, that then disables the signature enforcement and allows you to flash regular sysupgrade images

if u genuinely want an answer
S: sync (synchronizes ur packages with ur current copy of the package database i believe)
y: refresh (gets a fresh copy of the package database)
u: upgrade or sysupgrade (upgrades all packages that are out of date)

Updated my #OpenBSD router today, hopefully successful?
Sysupgrade got stuck in single user mode, rebooting seemed to fix it.
Also how is the /usr partition at 106% full?

I was a bit happy I discovered attended sysupgrade for openwrt and while one of the updates worked seamlessly, the subsequent update bricked it 🥲

Thankfully, backed up the sd card using `dd` so hoping the restore will make it all work again.

Done with the last #openwrt update. That was the big one (that does all the heavy lifting between the VLANs). Incredibly smooth with the attended sysupgrade...

Not even sure my other halt watching netflix even noticed

Update: After running sysupgrade, I've updated both werc (or maybe just re-installed the same version) and plan9port on an existing werc installation. I used the commands I put in the repo's readme. Looks like everything's still working as expected.
Next weekend I'll test werc-on-openbsd on it, although nothing that could affect my scripts changed in configuration files or packages so I guess nothing is going to break.

I tried out #openbsd on a server for the first time a couple of years ago. I'm a noob so I didn't realise I had to run "sysupgrade" periodically to upgrade the operating system.

You can only upgrade to the next minor version. But OpenBSD only keeps a couple of versions around. So once you're 4 […]

2 learnings so far (that have cost me the most time):

- sysupgrade file always needs to be called openwrt-mediatek-filogic-openwrt_one-squashfs-sysupgrade.itb
- if you want to use 5g wifi you need a PD usb-c power supply.
