I did the gamut of OpenBSD, FreeBSD, Gentoo, Kubuntu, then later tried openSUSE and Fedora. I preferred the latter two for not fucking with my machine for a month to make it go. I have Fedora on dual boot right now, and it's fairly slick, but I also have little reason to do much in there... yet.

the practical reality of GPU acceleration in open source can be observed not by observing Linux, but by observing OpenBSD or NetBSD. AI helps only a bit, but IP/patents have prevented hobbyist OS from gaining traction due to the GPU drivers issue.

Before I crack into the Mac Classic, I've decided to bring my PowerMac G4 (Quicksilver w/ Mirrored Drive Doors) back into service as an OpenBSD server. Was contemplating bringing it back as a Mac OS 9 system, but I'd rather it be useful in the modern era.

Thanks to the absence of Electron, #LiteIDE uses Qt and is built with portability in mind, which makes compiling and running it on #OpenBSD surprisingly simple. Just a couple of small tweaks and you’re good to Go!
There’s also a quick rant about Electron and what "portability" really means 😅"

Too many of the responses to this legit security concern are ridiculous, nobody is asking for OpenBSD levels of Security for Haiku OS, people just don't want a vulnerable operating system, especially online.
Even Linux Mint is less worse about this problem.
