@UNICEF.org's statement on age restrictions on social media highlights a key point that supporters of these restrictions ignore — social media bans hurt the most vulnerable and marginalized youth, cutting them off from sources of connection, expression, and learning. www.unicef.org/press-relea...

Real-Time Learning Inside a Shared VR Space

Inside Edstutia’s VR campus, learners don’t just passively watch — they enter a place where curiosity has room to move, questions happen out loud, and learning feels social again.

Today we took the last lessons of the semester, and this included learning a bit about the social history of art, including historians such as Svetlana Alpers. She singled out Rembrandt’s workshop as a showcase of artistic talent meets entrepreneurship, and how one can’t understand one w/o the other

Hello! I am monki. I exist here now and I plan to be in the business of big stuff, so adapt accordingly. I have never once used any social media platform before this one, so this will also be a learning experience for me too. Thank you for having me.

I'm still learning Spanish. For social-signaling reasons, I don't want to be a monolingual American.

To add salt to the wound of the "genAI concept artists": During one of my social skills classes at uni, our lector wanted us to strictly use pen and paper for notes. Because:
1. Learning through writing adds to the effectiveness
2. It keeps your focus better
3. It looks more presentable

Ahh, I did not know the difference between tortoise and turtle, all my life I thought it was two names for the same animal, thank you! I love learning things on here, proof that my time spent on social media isn't a total waste! Well, I hope she gets the water puddle she needs, then.👍

Just want to point out that reading insights from @mercurycdx.bsky.social like this are really valuable. Experience can always be expanded by adding knowledge from others.

I'm always grateful for that aspect of social media. I'm literally *always* learning.
I recall reading old investor meeting reports from around this era, referenced in game industry publications such as Game Machine, mentioning that the 16-bit home console market was hitting a downswing in 1995, even as the SNES had a strong 1994 holiday season with Donkey Kong Country.
1995 being referenced is kinda spooky, because its not often recalled how close the US was to another video game crash during that time. Aging 16bit hardware & a new generation of expensive consoles with little reason to own them (3DO, Jaguar, 32X)

And I don't think another PS1 is coming to save us

This is true for every aspect of culture.

Culture is collective learning of how to make social progress, without de-evaluating human lives or reducing them to tools.

Everything that de-evaluates human lives or reduce them to tools, is the very opposite of culture. That's destruction of society.

I think there are social settings in which we all know kids are learning to be little humans in society - grocery stores, malls, McDonald’s, Chuck E. Cheese, parks - and then there are places that aren’t appropriate “humans in society training grounds” - bars, Michelin star restaurants, spas

It's great to see more examples of how people are teaching with #OER! Local educators may be interested in learning more about social annotation in courses using open textbooks (and other materials as well):
What does it mean to leave a mark—on a page, a monument, a border? ✍️

In this episode of #OEGlobalVoices, @remikalir.bsky.social talks to @cogdog.bsky.social about his exploration of annotation as a form of literacy & activism.

Education isn’t limited to textbooks anymore. 📘➡📱

Platforms like YouTube, TikTok and Instagram can support real learning, if we know how to guide it. Interesting read on tapping social media for study, creativity and skills.

To the folks at NCAR. I’m sorry you are learning about this on social media. Don’t forget that the goal was always to traumatize us. I guarantee that there is no actual plan, they put these things out at least in part as scare tactics. It may or may not actually happen.
NSF is about to dismantle NCAR at Russell Vought's direction to protect the fossil fuel industry. It's hard to communicate just how much NCAR does, so let's take a look: I've never worked at NCAR, and I've worked with NCAR researchers once ever. What scientific discoveries has NCAR made possible? 👇
