I need at least 3 more folk to sign up for my Edinburgh Adult Education Programme archaeology classes at Craigentinny, or the course will be cancelled. If you know anyone who might be interested, please let them know. Thank you!

Today we had another visit organized by the department of Heritage of our University, and it was precisely in the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters, that hosts, among others, the degree of Art History I’m doing right now. So it’s a familiar place, used as an example in many classes, indeed.

This is the interior of some (possibly heavily restored) Roman ruins very close to Granada, in Las Gabias, in the middle of the area known as “the meadows”, “La Vega” de Granada. A fertile, flat land among several rivers, with lot of soil that has been harvested for more than 2000 years.

The Florentine Vitruvius: Leon Battista Alberti, Renaissance humanist architect, mathematician, cryptographer, ‘universal man’ (1404-1472); author of landmark study De Re Aedificatoria, written between 1443-1452 and published in 1485 (first printed book on architecture).

The monastery of the Jeronimos at Belem is the showpiece of a late Gothic style called Manuelino which is quintessentially Portuguese. The richness of its ornamentation might make it seem Baroque, but its horror vacuo uses more maritime and lacework motifs than little big-cheeked angels

This is the Jerusalemkerk in Bruges, one of the few private churches that exist in Belgium, created by the Adornes family in the 15th century. It’s still private and adminístered by a foundation. Although it seems to have remarkable stained glass windows, I couldn’t visit its interior

This apartment building called “Gasometer B” is in Vienna, in an area that was developed recently, and it shows. The actual gasometer is the round building on the right; it was totally redeveloped, keeping the exterior, a neoclassical building built by the end of the 19th century

That #Trump will never help #Ukraine is old news.
But why isn't he helping #Iran?

Because US military forces are massed near Venezuela, where Trump is stealing their oil. Not to MAGA, but to enrich himself.

The US has now become #Russia; a mafia state. A shithole country.

Good vid from Jake👇
Russia lost a ship in the Caspian Sea used to transport weapons from Iran. Ukraine has appointed a new, young defense minister. Europe is sending military forces to Greenland to protect it from attack from Trump and the United States military.

Auto Stop by Evelyne Axell is a piece I found in a small pop-art exhibition in Brussels, almost 10 years ago. It’s got all the flat surface and stark lines of pop-art and she’s Belgian, so fits in perfectly. If it had had a bit of dithering, it could have passed for a Lichtenstein

Walz: "What's happening in MN defies belief. News reports simply don't do justice to the level of chaos & disruption & trauma the federal govt is raining down... This long ago stopped being a matter of immigration enforcement. Instead, it's a campaign of organized brutality against the people of MN"

Have been thinking a lot lately about something Dada artist Hugo Ball wrote in his diary in 1916, amidst the violence & turmoil of World War I, as he reflected on the movement's use of masks, costumes, & performance:

"The horror of our time, the paralyzing background of events, is made visible."
For what it's worth, at least our present moment is helping me understand the Dada artists & their motivations a whole lot better

In all seriousness, a lot of Trump Term 2 foreign policy makes more sense under video game logic, where follow-through and long-term relationships usually don't matter.

Press button to get Maduro, move engineers to Venezuela, wealth score up.

Add Greenland, territory score up.

This is Santiago de Compostela, which is well known because of its cathedral and also as the end of the Camino de Santiago, but also for its university and its quintessentially Galician character.
And this picture is a bit Galicia for the rest of Spain: a beautiful place, but dark and rainy.
