Despite what you see above, the satinwood ones are my favorites That’s partly because the first time he visited me, P gave me a 7 inch one he’d bought for me at Crabtree and Evelyn in London. Until I lost it (it was stolen w/ my backpack) I used daily on my hair and always had it with me.

This. Sting is so chaotic for me. I can’t take it (which isn’t a bad thing) but I’m so frantic for it to stop everything flies out of my head 😅 the delivery of sting via an ebony hairbrush (or satinwood, surprisingly) combined with its deep thud, is most “punishing” for me.

Too true. The “always keep” include the two ebony ones that have been used for play and punishment for 20+ years — they were the two kept when we did our big sale right after we married. A satinwood one that I suspect went away to school with someone. And last year’s Christmas gift.

Wow! heard of 19c art-cased pianos that are yellow-ish, like the satinwood Playel below, but canary yellow seems like a mid-20th century thing—so, much ahead of its time. And you actually got it tuned and playable! What a remarkable instrument. Wish you much joy of it, and hope for pictures for us

‘The Georgian-inspired desk costs £11,500 and has satinwood legs … I bought it once I got the advance from my new book, Clodagh’s Happy Cooking.’ (Times). In contrast I spent entire annual royalties for six academic books on a pre-loved John Lewis desk off eBay last year. Questioning life choices.

Slow start to the day, afternoon been pretty relaxing doing lil jobs in the kitchen & bathroom. More paint around the radiator & above the door but also primed the panel covering the glass, ready for painting of the architrave & panel. In the bathroom I put my stuff on the wall to see how I like it

Finally finished painting my kitchen buffet yesterday. I didn't really do a before pic, so this is an old one, but it was a bit of a mess, with dingy white paint and lots of dings. It's a mixture of chalk paint, acrylic satin varnish, gloss oil paint and low VOC satinwood.

A crisp white man’s dress shirt. One of the custom ones that fit beautifully everywhere but the neck, where it’s tight enough to be difficult to button. Navy knickers. White ankle socks. And two hairbands.

Implement is the beautiful satinwood hairbrush that was my 2024 Christmas present.

Plain brilliant white emulsion for the walls, and satinwood ‘Once’ for the woodwork - both Dulux. The ceiling was fine with 2 coats but the walls needed 3. The previous colour was the palest of pale greys, so we’re not impressed with the emulsion. That’s half the room done; more tomorrow.
