Axie Oh I am obsessed with the Girl who fell beneath the sea. It so good (A romantasty in ya that is not clearly an adult book in disguise) and her K-POP contemporaries really are so well done.

i personally hate how people want me to basically answer for the perceived sins of romantasty if i say i like romance in genre fiction (and i don't even read romantasy), but i can say i like torture slop horror that's lowbrow and goofy, and people treat that as artsy compared to enjoying romance

Yes, many romance authors start out in the fanfic space. Many self-publish before being acquired by a publisher. And online trends in fanfic/AO3 dire y influence tends in mainstream romance—see the massive romantasty boom!
I’m not making fun of any of these books or their audience - I’m just saying that there is a very clear online fanfic to published romance novels pipeline in both style and substance that is immediately recognizable to anyone who read LiveJournal or WattPad or AO3 fanfics in high school or college

Really? Cos I have a major problem with it. Most times the fantasy aspect does not make sense. Romantasty is romance authors dipping their toes in fantasy and they don't care about gaping plot holes in their fantasy world.
