During Covid I used to sit outside Tony’s resthome room and we’d talk through the ranch slider, but he had trouble hearing me. Someone suggested walkie talkies. It made such a difference - he was so happy!

My very social UK based mother-in -law, got COVID, was hospitalised, isolated for weeks- which caused real harm, unable to return home or be accepted into rest home, got infected again in resthome care, died a few months later. 😢

I visited 6 days a week & phoned every evening until recently, when I switched to an after-work visit.
If I was away I made sure I phoned twice a day unless too remote.

Tony’s back at the resthome. Got him a cheeseburger. He’s tired & confused: thinks I’m lying about it being where he lives but happy to stay. 🤷🏻♀️

Your dad is absolutely right and think it was one of those thins that people loved or hated and after a long battle with the council it was pulled down and then the land bought for a resthome or something like that?

After discussions between the Dr & senior resthome nurse we’ve agreed to one more round of antibiotics for Tony’s foot.
The Dr is worried if the infection trs systemic it’ll be hard to keep him comfortable.
So this is essentially comfort care still. Sigh.

We get a lot of elderly customers (large resthome/village community in Henderson) and much more of my life requires reading greeting cards to people with vision problems than I thought it would.

Took Tony out of resthome for hair cut & brunch. Tidied after having family visit for 3 nights. Partner’s way for 7 weeks so settling into my craft room, making bits ‘n bobs ready to go into my next journal.
During the week it’ll be get from work, dinner, water the gardens and into my craft room…

Mum’s resthome has a respiratory virus outbreak with five residents in iso and visitors asked to mask and stay out of common areas (announced just after we visited her naturally (we did mask in common areas)).

No - I’ve come home to sort a few things including work so I can wfh at the resthome tomorrow while he sleeps. If I need to I can sleep in his fancy lazyboy now we’ve convinced him to go to bed.

We had our 6 monthly meeting with Mum’s resthome. Everything is pretty stable since last time, except she’s getting Ensure and has put on a bit of weight (and seems a little livelier with it). Her caregiver said “Oh everyone LOVES Jenny” which is the main thing I needed to hear really.
