I'd still be glad if they got there since more people will get to play them, but I want *even more* people to be able to play them, y'know? Plus they'd go hard on Switch Lite.

I'm cool with Heroes and Shadow making it to NSO tho. I know how it is with RenderWare and whatnot.

Anonymous said: A stunning revelation! You made the mistake of mentioning RenderWare once so now I’m gonna probably talk about it for a while. What if Shadow DID run on a custom engine? RW was only meant to be a graphics engine some even...

Aunque también es cierto que PS2 era puro RenderWare y lo recordamos con cariño. Yoquesé.

When you think of it, Unity is like the modern day equivalent to RenderWare which powered almost every game in the 2000s

It all had to be rebuilt because the Psi-Ops engine was...Renderware, I think?

But we also built a custom Finite State Machine tool in UE3 called WooFSM which totally made up for the rework as it let me build these animFSM systems without help from programmers, for the most part. Ish.

No episódio de Estudos Para Mim Mesmo™ de hj, não fazia ideia que a RenderWare foi comprada pela EA e virou a Criterion

I suppose, but also iirc Riders used Renderware too

God I fucking hate renderware

More like renderware for ps3 and the 360

I think Rockstar really pushed the limits of the RenderWare in general and especially with San Andreas at the time.

It's Renderware all over again

Sonic Team was forced to change Heroes from it's dedicated engine to Renderware. And I felt sad most of the people who played Heroes played a terrible version of it since PS2 was the best-selling console during the 6th gen and PS2 versions usually sold like hot-cakes compared to Xbox and GameCube.

Visually it's absolutely better than P4G due to the Renderware quirks, and I don't really care much for Golden's extra *events* (i.e. the winter trip), but yeah the QoL and a few extra *scenes* in Golden make it tough for me to earnestly say it's not the better version all-around

One of my favorite acts of violence when working with more experienced devs is to ask "Well, how would you do this in RenderWare?"

All the RenderWare Burnouts have the same thing with the cubemaps on Xbox. That was a really big deal in '02 with the port of the first game

I think that's reasonable. It also didn't help that everyone had moved onto RenderWare and then it got killed by EA right as the jump to HD happened, leaving a lot of people in the dust.

I think that it's totally possible to manage expectations to make smaller games, but - that means good managers.

Indeed. But what was the catalyst? The maturation of engines like Unreal 3, Renderware and RAGE? That Power PC architecture had long legs? That developers leaned harder into their ambitions? Not sure we'll ever see that sort of night-and-day difference in a single generation again.

I get that. I still play my older games for that reason. In fact, I've been playing my old PS2 library on PCSX2. Granted I have the internal resolution set to 1080p, but I don't use any graphics enhancements. But I also love the Renderware engine look from the early to late '00s.

They bought renderware, the studio that made the engine that made ps2 games.
they bought the competition and effectively killed it and made it’s successor exclusive.
they also bought the ultima studio “Origin” and killed it’s legacy, they don’t even sell ultima games.

heroes and shadow might be a long shot actually because from what i understand EA or whoever bought renderware charges exorbitant licensing fees for rereleasing old renderware games and sega's reasonably not looking to go bankrupt over these 2 games
April 2, 2025 at 2:33 PM
I doubt they got any other games to hide, since you should be up front with collections.
Like the 3D games are saddly not in there probably, mainly due them being made with Renderware, which infamously no one can work with anymore without heavy retooling.
