I had planned to make a video about this Goodmans radio that had a very cool feature: The ability to record 2, 20 second voice notes onto the facia: a circuit powered by two small coin cells. Naturally the memo bit is entirely dead so RIP that idea unless I find a working facia...

This is going to look so good in the dashboard of the new arrival! New bulbs and green backlighting added. So glad I rescued this stereo from the scrapyard a few years ago. It's the gift that keeps on giving. It sounds as good as it looks. 🥰

We fitted the new alternator this morning and Merle charges nice and steady at idle now! He was also treated to a nice 096 Yuasa battery.

Me and this car are not friends at the moment. Alternator has died (replacement on order) and then it trolled me by deciding it was randomly not going to fuel properly but then I fixed it by nursing the primer bulb and then it literally never had that problem again on a drive...

Hope everyone had lovely Christmas/Holiday times! I'm back with another "Chloe rejects modern appliances" with a rescued 1988 AEG Lavatherm tumble dryer. After a cleanup and replacing the light for the drum, it works great for 37 years old!

I had a very sad death in the radio world. My Panasonic RD545LEN died suddenly at the circuit level. I suspect dead CPU after me spending hours of troubleshooting. This was a huge loss as this was one of my favourite tape decks. But there is a silver lining THREAD [1/2] #weirdcarbs

Nothing to report on cars this week but I did save this 1996 Panasonic NN-5150B that was thrown out. Just had to source a plate and replace a tired fuse. That was it. It cleaned up well, too. It's the new home microwave and the ever indestructible 1992 Goodmans SpeedChef is now for the caravan!

Well I can't have done too badly because Felix now runs and idles for the first time since 2018!
Obviously not perfect as the carb is only base set and running on slightly old fuel, but not bad for a proof of concept! He even moves too!

I think I have this evil little thing put back together properly... Hopefully it works! My head is exploding trying to make sense of the multi-paragraph tuning instructions so that will be fun!

Crazy to think Merle was just a humble, yet forgotten airport ambulance for Filton sitting at 11k miles when we bought him, and his hard work as a daily has got him up to 18k (and change) with the vast majority of that being towing miles!
What a car!

A funny day: Towing Ronald back from an event, the Sony double DIN stereo is overheating and malfunctioning, Ronald lost one of his incredibly rare hubcaps somewhere, his fridge fell apart and needed sorting, then the drain hose on the dishwasher packed in.

Ever since I restored my 1971 Akai CR-80D 8 track recorder & restored my cartridges by cleaning them & replacing their felt pads, I've been listening to 8 track a lot as a background listening format. It may not be quite as high quality as cassette but it's still very good.

My WX-C570R has been fully serviced. I will probably end up using it as a stand in while I electrically restore the C570. I think both want a recap and I want to do the C570 first as its tuner module makes horrendous noises on the radio setting! We shall see if this one does or not.

So, after fitting the unit to Merle, I found out A: the accessory switch on these is VERY important and B: the tuner module is malfunctioning on it. But it's totally fine otherwise!
Nevertheless, bought another unit so I have spares. But it's the 'R' variant. Still think I prefer the other display.

I cannot describe the pain it took me to get this stereo fixed up and installed in Merle. I also had to modify the Ford trim since Ford head units of this era apparently weren't fully double DIN! But don't worry, I didn't cut a perfect trim. This was cracked anyway.

Oh yeah, I am liking the SimpleNG mod for BeamNG. I can drive a car we used to own! A Proton Saga! I should get back into doing BeamNG virtual photography. This wasn't a bad practice run, though.
