But it was very cool (because flip clocks just are) and I liked the fact the clock was lit by a gentle red neon bulb.

You definitely can't hate on the space egg design language, that's for sure. I can vouch for Prinzsound lack of quality. I had a flip clock from them for a bit, but I had to give up on it because it did not get better when serviced and was built like a wet paper bag. 😅

Ever since I restored my 1971 Akai CR-80D 8 track recorder & restored my cartridges by cleaning them & replacing their felt pads, I've been listening to 8 track a lot as a background listening format. It may not be quite as high quality as cassette but it's still very good.

Take it from me: owning an Austin Montego in 2025 (or two if you're mad like me) is not a thing for the faint hearted. So much stuff is NLA and could have you waiting weeks, months or years (true story) for parts. But despite that, I still love them and they deserve saving.

The mechs in these are EXTREMELY sensitive to not being timed correctly during disassembly or reassembly. As per the service manual, you must follow instructions on how to make sure the timing marks are in the right spot for servicing. It's pretty wild. 😅

You might say well why not use the C570R if it may work better? It's because I prefer the look of the VFD on the C570. The 'R' doesn't have a VU meter or fun spinning disc graphics and that just won't do. I will keep the 'R' regardless though. It's still a handy backup if the C570 died irreparably.

My WX-C570R has been fully serviced. I will probably end up using it as a stand in while I electrically restore the C570. I think both want a recap and I want to do the C570 first as its tuner module makes horrendous noises on the radio setting! We shall see if this one does or not.

So, after fitting the unit to Merle, I found out A: the accessory switch on these is VERY important and B: the tuner module is malfunctioning on it. But it's totally fine otherwise!

Nevertheless, bought another unit so I have spares. But it's the 'R' variant. Still think I prefer the other display.

Well, perhaps you would find the interior of my 1987 Austin Montego a little more appealing? Or perhaps my office Hi-Fi setup including a 1971 Akai CR-80 8 track recorder? Or maybe if you really want to go back, my early 60s Bush 1/4" reel to reel recorder without a semiconductor in sight!

Demo! Also music from th same year it was made - 1997

I did! I need to grab one at some point as I owned a Proton Saga Iswara a few years ago. 😀

I cannot describe the pain it took me to get this stereo fixed up and installed in Merle. I also had to modify the Ford trim since Ford head units of this era apparently weren't fully double DIN! But don't worry, I didn't cut a perfect trim. This was cracked anyway.

But it looks and sounds good. 😀

Can confirm Proton in SimpleNG is great. Had so much fun photographing it in action! 😀
November 5, 2025 at 1:58 PM
Oh yeah, I am liking the SimpleNG mod for BeamNG. I can drive a car we used to own! A Proton Saga! I should get back into doing BeamNG virtual photography. This wasn't a bad practice run, though.

The last time we cheekily bought a 4x4 cheap, it was very f*cked 😂😅
November 4, 2025 at 7:35 PM
Just found it. What an excellent selection and so much options! Will definitely give that a try. Don't mind lack of crash stuff as driving in BeamNG is more than just smashing! Wish I still had my Iswara, Bill so I could help them model the Iswara. I do miss that car.

In his canal boat he uses a mixer setup with RCA jacks that pipes off to a discrete amp. Since it has a class D amp, you can't just hook it up to RCA jacks as you'll short the amp with common grounds. This line output converter impedance matches and proper isolates the channels for safe use with RCA

The custom spec Volvo SC-805 is ready for my friend! First time I'd built a proper custom rig for someone else. It sounds great and actually changed the way I do thing on my radio desk with regards to diagnostics of radios with class D amps. It should serve him well on his canal boat!

They definitely scramble it, but people must be able to find out what part of the code in the EEPROM is responsible for security.

I'm not entirely sure what algorithm they are using. It's probably not as sophisticated as 256 but you never know.

I should poke in a proper hex editor.

Been a while since I last decoded a unit at the firmware level! Such was the case for this Volvo SC-805 I got for a friend's canal boat Hi-Fi project. I had to reflash the firmware with one where the code was known. It worked perfectly! Onwards to getting it up to spec!

Unfortunately we had a casualty: 2006RDS; which now even lights up with only memory attached so that's had some kind of major failure inside. It's not the right generation for Felix, so will add it to the spares pile and fit my Panasonic instead, with a proper adaptor so no cutting original loom!
October 24, 2025 at 10:25 AM
Some work on Felix yesterday. It was actually quite bitterly cold! But I have got electrical things working much better after cleaning up earth poinds behind the dash and replacing some bulbs. Hoping to sort more electrical stuff tomorrow. But the potential MOT failures are decreasing!

Felix says hello to a fellow G-plater friend! 🙂

Thank you @rsme.nl for sending me this little Hella light a while ago! I've recently added a warm white LED to it to keep it's original look, but allow me to use it as a work light for many hours connected to a car battery. 🙂

Yes I will keep the box too! I always do.

Noah I make an exception for because I have a stockpile of 1.6 bits thanks to Clifford's sacrifice, and because Noah was a car I really wanted for years. I'm not sure about Ralph, though. Think I may move that car on at some point. Might then replace with an era appropriate Ford like an Escort.
