Crazy to think Merle was just a humble, yet forgotten airport ambulance for Filton sitting at 11k miles when we bought him, and his hard work as a daily has got him up to 18k (and change) with the vast majority of that being towing miles!

A funny day: Towing Ronald back from an event, the Sony double DIN stereo is overheating and malfunctioning, Ronald lost one of his incredibly rare hubcaps somewhere, his fridge fell apart and needed sorting, then the drain hose on the dishwasher packed in.

Ever since I restored my 1971 Akai CR-80D 8 track recorder & restored my cartridges by cleaning them & replacing their felt pads, I've been listening to 8 track a lot as a background listening format. It may not be quite as high quality as cassette but it's still very good.

So, after fitting the unit to Merle, I found out A: the accessory switch on these is VERY important and B: the tuner module is malfunctioning on it. But it's totally fine otherwise!
Nevertheless, bought another unit so I have spares. But it's the 'R' variant. Still think I prefer the other display.

I cannot describe the pain it took me to get this stereo fixed up and installed in Merle. I also had to modify the Ford trim since Ford head units of this era apparently weren't fully double DIN! But don't worry, I didn't cut a perfect trim. This was cracked anyway.

Oh yeah, I am liking the SimpleNG mod for BeamNG. I can drive a car we used to own! A Proton Saga! I should get back into doing BeamNG virtual photography. This wasn't a bad practice run, though.

While Chloe was looking at electrics, I thought I’d do some cleaning. Inside looked a lot better after a vacuum and a clean. Outside was huge change. Bumpers look to have some life left and paint! Can’t wait to polish properly after seeing this test patch!

Some work on Felix yesterday. It was actually quite bitterly cold! But I have got electrical things working much better after cleaning up earth poinds behind the dash and replacing some bulbs. Hoping to sort more electrical stuff tomorrow. But the potential MOT failures are decreasing!

Thank you @rsme.nl for sending me this little Hella light a while ago! I've recently added a warm white LED to it to keep it's original look, but allow me to use it as a work light for many hours connected to a car battery. 🙂

Came back to the car earlier to see a subtle 488 parked next to Merle! Quick Look up and it’s done over 20k more miles than Merle. Well used for a Ferrari for sure!

I never thought I’d tow but I’ve ended up really enjoying towing and so glad I can say I can tow now. Ronald is perfect and Merle is a wonderful stead for it. Another great trip away

We ended up leaving Dapplewood on our last night as we wanted to beat the rain first thing in the morning. Sadly, we met the rain anyway, though not too heavy and the trip home was quiet, and I always love night trips! Ronald was a great home for this trip. Merle is a great tow car.

Working on cleaning out the heater flue on Ronald the caravan and had this friend with me for a few hours! They were amazingly tame and just enjoyed all the bugs coming out! It's moments like this that make me happy in this world. Really brightened me up. 🥰
