#Pollinators We can attract our native pollinators by stopping all landscape-wide pesticides & by planting a wide variety of native plants arranged so that pollinators can thrive. Some can only fly a short distance to find nectar. Read: beautifulnativeplants.blogspot.com/2025/04/desi...

Bumblebees nest in the ground. When people "make" their gardens, they're actually destroying bee nests. Many bees also overwinter in the ground and inside the dried up stalks of native plants. All of which are removed because it doesn't fit that white picket fence fantasy.

Bee Balm (Monarda) – Natural Pest and Powdery Mildew Prevention
Bee balm (Monarda) is an essential plant for sunny native pollinator gardens. Cultivars such as Jacob Cline produce vibrant red flowers that attract both hummingbirds and butterflies to pollinate your garden. Bee balm plants can be highly susceptible to powdery mildew and rust fungus infections that can defoliate and weaken the plants over time. Preventing such issues by providing sufficient air circulation and by thinnng large patches periodically.

Every time a bee visits a flower, it's not just about pollination—it's about keeping nature's rhythm alive. Bees are crucial to the health of our gardens, ecosystems, and food production. Without their tireless work, many of the plants we love would struggle to reproduce.

Good questions. Well, I would say the key aspect is that we live on five acres with mixed woods and meadows with many native host plants for their caterpillars. We don’t use any chemicals at all.

In our gardens: Zinnias, Echinacea, Rudbeckia, Salvia, Joe-Pye, Mint, Phlox, Bee Balm, Fennel, Hyssop.

I wish I could thank the gardeners at Bunhill Fields personally. I love their work & the way they explain it on chalk boards around the place. How many public gardens have a quote from Albert Camus on autumn? The bee hotel is very sweet too 🤗

I wasn't looking too hard today... but I'm pretty sure this was the only Bee in the wildlife gardens. Many plants are still in blossom but the overnight temperatures are getting quite low.

I'm not a fan of invasive balsam, the rate & height that it grows is too fast for our smaller native wildflowers to compete with as it crowds their light, but this time of year it's useful for #bees yesterday I captured this one leaving the flower @wildflowerhour.bsky.social @bsbibotany.bsky.social
