Nov 6, 1913: The Los Angeles Museum of History, Science & Art opened on this day in Exposition Park. The museum split in two and became @nhm.org and #LACMA in 1963.

I love ancient bones, whether they are dinosaurs or Ice Age mammals like we have in our area. Visiting the Los Angeles Natural History Museum was a gas and I love the shots I got.

#nhmla Today alone has seen our juvenile Aulophyseter morricei specimen misidentified as a crocodile, a terror bird, a plesiosaur, an otter, a mosasaur, and a “flying dinosaur.”

This is exactly why decomposing cetacean bodies keep getting posited as "unknown sea monsters."

𝘖𝘗𝘌𝘕 𝘞𝘐𝘋𝘌. Museum Ichthyologists recently opened the Grand Foyer tank containing our megamouth and coelacanth specimens to get accurate internal measurements.

Periodically checking the alcohol concentration and level ensures our specimens on view are safe—especially with our megamouth!
