Juglans regia - Common Walnut

Making its way by trade along the Silk Road the Walnut was introduced across Europe by the Romans. Cultivated in orchards also grows in the wild (if you know what to look for).

Another pagan new-year fertility symbol. I have one of these in my garden. I didn't intend to but I think it arrived with one of the Blackbirds that nest in the Laurel.

Salix alba - Common Willow

Common to temperate N Hemisphere. One of the original sources of the #medicine Salicin which is NOT Aspirin. Aspirin was synthesised from Salicin (extracted from Meadowsweet) by Bayer c1897.
