The power of community science! Illinois Tick-Trefoil (Desmodium illinoense) was considered extirpated in Canada, but an @inaturalist.bsky.social observation in 2018 revealed a remnant population that sparked a COSEWIC reassessment. Just one observation can make a world of difference for a species!

It was a great year of restoration at Captain Cornelius Park! Volunteers removed invasive Common Buckthorn, making space for 450 native trees and shrubs. Thank you Carolinian Canada Coalition for financial support, City of Hamilton for debris removal and trees, and volunteers for your hard work 💚
