A new book on the Four Branches is coming. The Mabinogion Set, a pun on the Mandelbrot Set as it takes a fractal approach to the narratives. Could be interesting. The author has already written a book about Peredur.

playing mabinogi as a baby and having a childhood love of faeries and elves has made amalur's premise, "2012 rpg with world of warcraft aesthetics and irish/welsh mythology leanings", equivalent to crack cocaine for me. i really ought to read the mabinogion proper at some point

Though if you want a more authentic experience of the stories, then of course I suggest waiting until later this year and playing 'Tales from the Mabinogion'... :)

Cemeteries of Amalo is Katherine Addison. @amalelmohtar.com is The River Has Roots, which has a fable/Mabinogion kind of vibe, and This Is How You Lose The Time War, science fiction / science fantasy written with Max Gladstone. Plus Seasons of Glass and Iron coming in March and many short stories.

I’ve set my campaign, “Exiles of Théah”, in The Glamour Isles (Avalon). So it’s a mad mash-up of Pirates of the Caribbean, Three Musketeers, and The Mabinogion. The plot borrows liberally from Treasure Island, Lorna Doone, and Brigadoon. My rather idiosyncratic childhood favourites!

I've read the Mabinogion, the History of the Kings of Britain, Chrétien's Arthurian Romances, Marie's Lais and the Breton Lays, Merlin and the Grail and I can finally say that I'm so freaking tired of Gawain's ass pls for the love of everything nice on this green earth just give me Galahad already

You might be interested in a book called 'The Mabinogion'

It's a collection of stories and tales from early Welsh history!
(12th–13th centuries & earlier oral history)

The stories are almost poetry and highly visual

Edgar Allan Poe was born on this day in 1809.
Phil Rowe, the voice actor portraying the narrator in 'Tales from the Mabinogion', has recorded a wonderful reading of Poe's most famous and influential poem, 'The Raven'.

I'm no Tolkien scholar, but I'm pretty sure his elves were inspired by the race of beings called Álfar in Norse myth. And then he made them speak Pseudo-Finnish and Pseudo-Welsh because he liked the Finnish Kalevala and the Welsh Mabinogion.

The other stuff is just wild lol

In 1838 Lady Charlotte Guest published her translation of "The Lady of the Fountain", one of the earliest Arthurian legends.
Between 1838 and 1845, she published seven further volumes of medieval Welsh tales, in what became the very first English language edition of The Mabinogion.
