#AwesomeCharacters I admit that my MCs often strongly adhere to a physical archetype best described as Big Fellah and L'il Dude, which, if I'm honest, is likely a reflection of me being a 5'6" (167 cm) gay fellah living in a 6'5" (195 cm) world. 😊 (1/2)

Where do you get inspiration for your characters personality?

Yourself? Fictional characters? People you know or celebrities? It just comes to you?

Has someone you've met ever reminded you of your character?

#AwesomeCharacters - Fencing, of course. 😜 I'm chuckling because Timmor Buckler and Odé Qaxar in my Westeros stories were originally inspired by Nzinga Prescod and Race Imboden, both previously on the US Olympic Fencing Team.

It's the Olympics right now, and all your characters are going!

What are they doing? Are they an athlete? Spectating? Which sport would they like to watch/do?

Or are they just enjoying the free trip to Italy?

#FebruaryWorldbuilders - In my Westeros series, yes, most certainly both exist. 😊 There are greenseers and wargs and several prophecies giving rise to a bewildering array of fan-theories concerning how they will be resolved, if ever. GRRM is infamous for dropping pearls he later simply abandons. 😶
#FebruaryWorldbuilders, good morning! Are prophecies or psychic abilities real in your world? How do they affect the world? Tomorrow I will ask about free will, so if you have prophecies, think about how that influences whether free will exists or not, and have an answer tomorrow😁

#FebruaryWorldbuilders - In the Enclosure - No, such elements are not evident. I'm not interested in the withering restrictions of "Hard Sci-Fi", but it IS a Science Fiction story and I'm trying to keep the more fantastical elements scientifically explicable and true to the setting... (1/2)

#FebruaryWorldbuilders - In the Enclosure, the digital realm of the Steward is accessible only to those whose brains have been upgraded through nanite reconfiguration. Long story short, if you were to open the skull of any long-term resident, you would find a bunch of "aftermarket" systems. (1/4)
#FebruaryWorldbuilders If you have nonphysical realms in your setting, how can they be accessed? Can characters go there or somehow 'see' inside it? Does something else live there and come out when summoned?

#AwesomeCharacters - A difficult question for Timmor Buckler because his current most favorite place was once his most unfavorite place, his home - Castle Bronzegate. (1/5)
Tell me more about your #AwesomeCharacters

What is your character's favorite place in their world? A place they find peace, or excitement, or joy?

Is it a type of place (forest, mall, etc) or somewhere specific?

Is it somewhere they go frequently?

#FebruaryWorldbuilders - My original Enclosure novel sorta has a non-physical realm, but it's technological, not supernatural or other-worldly. Long story short, the setting is a quasi-derelict alien bio-research station held together very tenuously by a true AI I call The Steward. (1/4)
Hey there, #FebruaryWorldbuilders. We're getting weird this week and talking about metaphysical aspects of our worlds. Do you have any nonphysical realms? Dream worlds, mind worlds, spiritual realms, a space of pure mathematics, etc. What are they in your setting?

#FebruaryWorldbuilders - The canon of ASOIAF introduces the greenseer network, originally specific to the Children of the Forest, but eventually shared with the First Men. Very powerful greenseers like The Three-Eyed Raven can use the network to make time a non-linear paradigm. (1/5)

#AwesomeCharacters - From my Enclosure novel, vision not only predominates, it's an important part of the basic setup of the story. Tukhé (Neanderthals) and Maosa (Denisovans) and many who have strong admixture from these branches of humanity see a thing called tumpa (toom-pah) (1/5)

Technical question today!

What senses do your characters use most?

Do you describe what they see, smell, taste, feel, or hear more?

Is it different between characters?

Do any have special senses?

#FebruaryWorldbuilders - In my ASOIAF fic series, the most notable body of water is likely The Summer Sea, simply because I shift the focus in that geographic direction. I'm a equitorial fellah and if the canon affords me tropics, that's where I tend to take things. 🌴😊

#FebruaryWorldbuilders - From my original Enclosure novel, to the southwest of landmass is a lake simply known as the Lake to the hominins of the Enclosure. Rashiné and his people live upon the water itself in a floating town of reed mats and houses, forced there after a bloody war. (1/3)
Good morning, friends and #FebruaryWorldbuilders! Do you have any notable bodies of water in your book/world? Tell me about them. What's in it? What significance does it hold for the people living near it?

#AwesomeCharacters - Well established throughout the stories wherein he appears, Timmor Buckler would crack open a book and lean into a comfortable chair. Though, in truth, such idle moments are rare enough in the life if a young lord. He's typically at it seven days of seven.

How does your character handle boredom/idleness?

Do they enjoy a lazy day doing nothing? Do they need it, sometimes? Or do they always want to be doing someone, and idleness makes them restless and unsettled?

#AwesomeCharacters In my original fiction Enclosure novel, Angie would handle it the same way I do. She's got a few serious "paint stripper" lines learned in a few languages, and she just delivers them until one finally lands. Click! 😉

Silly hypothetical!

How would your character handle a scam call?

Trustingly give up their credit card number? Just hang up? Keep them talking and waste their time? Lure them into an elaborate trap for daring?

#AwesomeCharacters Timmor of Bronzegate in Westeros would unwittingly frustrate the heck out of the scam caller because the phone itself would be utterly distracting.

"What strange work is this???" 😳

I'm just imagining him accidentally opening iTunes and playing a song. 😅

#FebruaryWorldbuilders From my original Enclosure novel - the ballfruit trees. I'm still really iffy about the name, but I know their nature pretty well. They exist as the method for feeding the inhabitants of the Enclosures. They are a novel invention of mine, not real-world. (1/8)
#FebruaryWorldbuilders What are some flora or fungi found in a notable forest of your world? Are they real or did you make them up?
February 6, 2026 at 3:35 PM
#FebruaryWorldbuilders is still focused on Westeros where Weirwood trees are front and center as notable flora. In my fics, there are also Ceiba trees in the Summer Isles with their corresponding Children called the Little Sister. (1/2)

Buddy, the only REAL question is, “How many of you AND your grannies am I willing to unapologetically clothesline in order to ensure that I am the one who gets to stay there?”

The answer is "ALL of you and EVERY single one of your grannies".

Dear Near-Future Sci-Fi,

I get that you're impatient and you want all the tech NOW!!! But, if ALIEN:Earth is set in 2122 and the Maginot has been on mission for 65 years, that means she launched in 2057, and that's just 31 years away. That patently ain't happening. (1/4)

On the genderlessness of “dude":

Most times I deploy the word “dude”, it’s not even in the vocative. It’s not referencing ANYone.

If it's anything, it's a soft expletive.

“Fuck! What is that?”
“Shit! What is that?”
“Dude! What is that?”

Comme ça…

I can't be alone, can I? I know some of you possess the magic widget to escape into your writing. No irony, no lie - I wish I had that widget. Instead, my writing feels like it's on the other side of a massive door to which I don't have the key right now.
