Before rejoining Epic, I spent a 2 months w my best pal Kris Taylor, Jerry O'Flaherty and the Narwhal team. I was the rigging and mocap dept. I used mGear, Metapipe2, Xsens and Manus gloves. It was a great project and it shows what a small and talented team can do in Unreal youtu.be/nuNXP1esHvY?...

I saw one where the main feature is a flying mech based on a horseshoe crab. Lots of moving parts, but those parts didn't appear too complicated. The whole thing was probably rigged with mGear.
Another showed off a robot shoulder, with auto-stretching hydraulics. Also not too complicated.

question hound's rig is a fairly standard mGear rig, but i did finally get the chance to try a cartoony eye rig. applying the scale at the top level but the rotation one level below lets the pupils rotate very cleanly

Props for the character, modelled and rigged in Maya (using mGear), textured in Substance Painter and lightning made in UnrealEngine 5.

If you work in maya, mgear has it’s Plebes system that lets you do this with all of it’s rig parts, it’s super nice

うおー!
メッシュ変形させて新規BlendShapeを追加できるようになったし、ジョイント追加してウェイトペイント塗って好きに動かせるようになった…!
自分でリグも少し組めるし、mGearも使える。これで私もリガーかな!?

I also know nothing about modeling and am in a similar boat. But as far as rigging goes there are more automated solutions that work great for bipeds like AdvancedSkeleton and mGear

sounds about right! i've noticed studios here and there using mgear (like supergiant.) but yeah i'd rather be in the position where i can build on top of that. i don't like being too reliant on the work of others
