Everyone does not, the haters are just loooooud 😅 I'm with you tho, so many more interesting stories in the legendarium to pull from. I think Serkis just wanted to play Gollum again. I truly don't mean to be ageist, but it seemed like the role tested his body to its limits 25 yrs ago...& directing?!

Very enjoyable to stumble across the fairy tale elements that get sanded down in Tolkien's later legendarium and in the Jackson portrayal. Talking purses, animal waiters, the King of All Birds, Were-worms.

I’m picturing this in my head & this game franchise is the ideal way to have all the characters of the legendarium while also breaking away from the movie aesthetics. Gimme Three Kingdoms & Sengoku style Toei renderings.

Starting a tactical startup named after the most fearsome weapon in Tolkien’s legendarium:

Lobelia Sackville-Baggins’ Umbrella

(I've never been good at directly asking for help/things so apparently, as a very small child, I said to my grandmother, "I had a cookie in this house once." and it immediately entered the family legendarium.)

Lower in relative terms, yes, but I think that still makes them powerful compared to human workers. Is there any description in the legendarium of elves performing manual work? Baking lembas, weaving cloth, twining rope, yes, but all enhanced with what hobbits see as magic.

I am considering making my novels an open legendarium setting that fans or other authors are welcome to write stories for. Does anyone have any advice for the nuts and bolts of this and how I can still make a living on these if there’s not a copyright?

Ex: Not caring for "Tolkien's legendarium" because they are what is "insisted" by the masses as the standard for how the world building and story writing of a fantasy epic should be constructed.

...not only that the guaranteed "happy ending" comes only by way of the cross - but that it lies "beyond the walls of the world". Eucatastrophe within mortal life cannot be relied on to occur (and often doesn't, looking at Tolkien's broader legendarium).

I have no familiarity with Frieren and thus no criticism of it, but yeah, that's not a subversion of Tolkien, it's like his number one Big Thought about his whole legendarium.

I will now be taking questions on The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings, The Silmarillion, and Tolkien's overall legendarium.

I'm the biggest Middle-Earth fan of all, but sad-to-say, homeboy had plenty of his own unquestioned biases against brown and black and gay people, and he based his legendarium in part on the historical conflict between Constantinople and the Caliphates, which is the A-#1-cause-celebre of fascism.

The War of the Rohirrim is not without its flaws, but in retrospect props to it for adapting a minor Legendarium story, expanding on a female character given little canon narrative, and not relying heavily on returning actors

u heard sharon, everyone post about their esoteric interests right fucking now. for the good of the community, we need to be hyperfixationmaxxing.
i think this site really needs to figure out how to grow the non-politics verticals (the baseball moment was a good thing!) because i suspect a lot of the bad clusters come out of the political clusters driving 95% of ENG-lang posts

it's not JRR's fault (well...), but, sorry: the underpinnings of all Middle Earth Legendarium are reliant on 20th c ethnonationalist understandings of race and nationality (which go pretty nice with fascism). you can't invent Orcs without this being the case.
Because they are stupid.
How did The Lord of the Rings end up so beloved by the right wing?

Just like how aspects of Tolkien's life bled to his works (especially Middle-earth legendarium), his diaries blended his personal fear, happiness, amusement, sadness, intellectual interests, and comments on mundane things. 4/12

Tolkien fans be like "I love Nimloth the Fair I think she and her descendants represent the rise and fall of humanity in the legendarium and their ability to rise again no matter how many times they fall." and Nimloth the Fair is a tree.
