This piece of plaster was part of the decorative scheme painted in 1632 for William Sparrow d. 1651 at Park Farm, Hilton, Huntingdonshire.
This was work done for prosperous yeoman farmers & is a rare survival. (Victoria & Albert Museum, London)

To be honest, I always get a little confused with where the H-shires (where hurricanes hardly ever happen) Herefordshire, Hampshire and Hertfordshire are - apart from Huntingdonshire which is/was on my East Anglian doorstep.

Hey it's February already and my lovely desk calendar now shows Sidney Inskip Ladds (1867-1950), an architect who was one of the small but very busy group of Huntingdonshire antiquarians back in the early 20th century. Ladds designed the Norris Museum in St Ives, where his papers are now kept

“2 February is... Badgers’ Day in Huntingdonshire  –  according to a 20th century local historian/ archaeologist type called C F Tebbutt...”
So, Groundhog Day – is it a uniquely weird Pennsylvanian custom? Apparently not! If you look into odd (and not just English-speaking) folklore and customs, it’s got precursors...

Former Chair of Cambridgeshire County Council, former Mayor of St Neots. Huntingdonshire District Council has full elections in three months time. Last time around The Greens won their first seat in this once safe-as-military-fortresses Blue seat (John Major was MP for Huntingdon while PM)
The amazing and local hearted councillor, Stephen Ferguson has joined the Green Party!

Welcome to the party pal!

Interesting move with full slate of elections coming up in 3 months time in St Neots, Huntingdonshire District. The town really should be included in the proposed Greater Cambridge Unitary as originally proposed by Redcliffe-Maud’s 1969 Royal Commission on #localgov

Confirmation that May's elections in Cambridge, Huntingdonshire, and South Cambridgeshire are going ahead, but Peterborough's elections are, shamefully, being cancelled.
“The government has confirmed it will bring forward legislation to postpone elections for 29 councils that provided sufficient evidence on how postponement would release capacity to help deliver local government reorganisation.” www.gov.uk/government/n... Includes Peterborough @philrodgers.co.uk
Councils granted flexibility to finish reorganisation
This once-in-a-generation reform will end the outdated two-tier system and build stronger local councils.

Of the people who did respond to the consultation, the split was

Peterborough: 43.7%
Huntingdonshire: 25.3%

Fenland: 13%
not great but not as bad as...

...what is going on with Cambridge city at only 5.1%

East Cambridgeshire: 4.7%

South Cambridgeshire: 6%
