Cambridge 2026: luxury apartments connected by potholed roads. Private wealth, public squalor - a symptom of the failure of successive governments to ensure wealth is more equitably distributed & local public services are properly funded. @matthewpennycookmp.bsky.social

CPCA have voted to scrap two bus routes without resident engagement.

Numbers in a report enough to base a decision on, not asking any of the passengers that use the services or those who don't use them but could do.

Transport committee had told the Board there should be resident engagement.

Former Chair of Cambridgeshire County Council, former Mayor of St Neots. Huntingdonshire District Council has full elections in three months time. Last time around The Greens won their first seat in this once safe-as-military-fortresses Blue seat (John Major was MP for Huntingdon while PM)
The amazing and local hearted councillor, Stephen Ferguson has joined the Green Party!

Welcome to the party pal!

Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Board agenda has been published, includes "Proposed 2026/27 Budget and Annual Business Plan and Medium-Term Financial Plan 2026-2030" 🥱😵‍💫

More interesting to me, digging through stats:

Region population near 1 million?

only 151 completions of questionnaire online

Stagecoach bus strike starting tomorrow (after being called off a few days ago?) some interesting(?) things…

No Tiger 2, 3, 4 buses - aren’t these contracted CPCA routes paid by us via Mayoral Precept??

£2.50 flat bus fare - so why not that all the time usually?

Sawtry 7 ...?

People seem to repeatedly say #Cambridgeshire roads are rubbish

BBC News articles about same contractor, for same county council... maybe time the contract was ended and move on?

High up the ‘to-do’ list of the Cambridge Area Bus Users Executive Committee is to take steps to bring the needs of bus users to the attention of our local politicians. With this in mind, we have resolved to ask public questions at local council meetings when we believe an issue should be brought up the agenda. At the 17th November 2025 meeting of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority’s Transport Committee…

I wonder if it’s the speed limit

Or the increase up to the £3 bus fare cap?

Or a bit of both?
Fewer Cambridgeshire busway passengers after speed limit reduced
The limit on the network, where three people have died, is reduced while fencing is installed.

17 November 2025 transport meeting

Comparing regions, their max distance to stop, min frequency, and cost benchmarks.

Yet typical "Cambs style" 🤔 CPCA going for "dynamic" instead of actual numbers, and higher cost per pax??

Saw there was a story about 460,000 new homes for Cambridge on a paywalled site, but the report appears to be from Create Streets, who propose (do people living in and around the area get a say?) expansion in three key areas around the city by 2050
