The other thing, which isn't 100% clear, is if the original repair is paid for by CCC. It suggests it is, and just the re-repair that has to be paid for by the contractor - but that means they're still paid for the original "substandard work" that happened (and those in the ~95% not checked)?

It seems none of the changes that came in to effect (multiple operators) on 2nd of January have made it to Google Maps or Traveline, or anything that uses whatever they get their source data from.

That includes routes the Ely changes ended, the 32 that changed times, the 31 that ended for new X31.

Is that 10 out of 2403 total repairs done (~ <0.05%), or 10 out of [a randomly checked?] 122 inspections? (about ~8.25% of those checked “failed to meet the required standard” and needed redoing at contractors own cost?)

Might be worth asking for clarification.

But don't forget Cambridge(shire?) is a net contributor to the country economy.

Gets less out of the country than it puts in. And doesn't it just show.

CPCA, making this decision today, against the view of the Transport Committee, effectively have ignored their Bus Service Review Framework which specifically mentions Engagement, and has a whole section covering Stakeholder Engagement.

CPCA have voted to scrap two bus routes without resident engagement.

Numbers in a report enough to base a decision on, not asking any of the passengers that use the services or those who don't use them but could do.

Transport committee had told the Board there should be resident engagement.

Not once has the fact that one of the routes covers around 20 bus stops that the alternative "duplicate route" doesn't cover, nor that it doesn't go to the same place (19A route).

But of course, CPCA may have found that detail if they'd have done the resident engagement that the Framework mentions.

Lots (lots and lots) of words in Item 12 of 28 January 2026 board meeting, above info sourced from "Appendix 9 – Budget Consultation Engagement Report, item 12", which also includes some summary "themes" of comments people made.

It's not clear if these % include "168 submissions were received via the Mayor and relate to two specific parts of the questionnaire, with all giving views on the Mayoral precept and free parking" which appear to have been shared largely with Mayor's (who pledged such policies) supporters.
January 21, 2026 at 9:57 PM
(Unsurprisingly) people like the idea of not paying more money and getting something free:

71.1% of people that responded, support or strongly support Mayor’s proposal to freeze the Mayoral Precept

70.5% of people that responded, support or strongly support Mayor’s proposal for free parking

Views on the Medium-Term Financial Plan:

47% or respondents expressed a NEUTRAL position

39.1% DISAGREED or STRONGLY DISAGREED

only 13.9% of respondents either AGREED or STRONGLY AGREED with the MTFP
January 21, 2026 at 9:57 PM
Views on the 2026/27 Budget proposals:

45% of respondents DISAGREED or STRONGLY DISAGREED.

39.7% respondents expressed a NEUTRAL position

only 15.3% of respondents either AGREED or STRONGLY AGREED with the proposals

Awareness of Combined Authority:
69.5% very or relatively familiar
30.5% not very or not at all familiar

don't forget that's 69.5% of the tiny amount of people that responded - expect wider awareness v. low

Only 53.6% very or relatively familiar with CPCA's future vision and planned activities

Of the people who did respond to the consultation, the split was

Peterborough: 43.7%
Huntingdonshire: 25.3%

Fenland: 13%
not great but not as bad as...

...what is going on with Cambridge city at only 5.1%

East Cambridgeshire: 4.7%

South Cambridgeshire: 6%

"An additional digital ad campaign"
347k reach
3.8m impressions
19k interactions

~0.5% engagement rate?! shocking.
January 21, 2026 at 9:57 PM
(+251 by email)

"regular posts across [CPCA] social media"
7.2k reach
12.9k impressions
2.53% engagement rate - dismal. Presumably these could have clicking to make image bigger, clicking reaction, commenting, or clicking through to consultation page

~326 people engaged with social media posts?

I see it’ll accept the Tiger Pass (meant to be £1 U25 fares) but not at £1

Presumably as a “coach service“ it’ll avoid being in the franchising too…?
