Just finished eating the New Year’s Day big community meal the neighbors generously put on each year. They hosted 72 people. Here’s the menu (which doubles as a ballot to decide which one dish from each category returns in 2027).

Important updates: My brother-in-law let his family go look at bunnies across the street and now they have a bunny. Also, we got my MIL a cute hat and my SIL has a cute dog, so everything is very cute.

Purple sweet potatoes are a fun ingredient. I think I remember my dad made a really nice pie with ube and haupia one time when my folks were living in Hilo for a bit; I should repeat that one sometime.
