Perennial grain crops and the Land Institute are profiled in this piece from The Guardian. Perennial crops are indeed an important piece of our future food supply.

Sussan Ley just admitted on #afternoonbriefing that her negotiations with the PM on new environment legislation was via text message - her last message went unanswered

Are you fucking kidding me Sussan Ley?

You think our environment laws should be a text exchange?

Help nature now! 🌱🐝🐦

Tomorrow is the first debate looking at potential changes to the Natural Environment Bill.

Tell your MSPs you want it to include strong targets, Swift bricks and no powers to weaken wildlife protections. It only take a minute 👉 action.rspb.org.uk/page/181323/...

The Natural Environment Bill could restore nature across Scotland. 🐦🌱🐝

But there's a problem.

Part of the Bill introduces powers that threaten our most important wildlife protections.

A nature Bill shouldn't do that! Join us in calling for this to be fixed 👉

Whoa, a new study shows that when viruses infect queen bees, it causes their pheromones to fade & ovaries to shrink. The hive senses the drop in fertility & overthrows her for not laying enough eggs 🐝

Takeaway, viruses aren't mild and bees are brutal

The hive rulers produce a pheromone that helps keep workers loyal. What happens when it's gone?

Continuing the bumblebee v #honeybee theme:

Whereas honey bee hive/colony tasks are ‘assigned’ by AGE of the bee, bumblebee nest tasks are related to the SIZE of the individual bee rather than the age.

#Bumblebees make use of various floral ‘cues’ when interpreting if a flower is attractive/useful to them as a source of forage.
These cues include scent, colour and the electric field of the flower.

Bumblebees are gentle giants. They’re not out to sting, but to help pollinate and support the environment. When one raises a leg in warning, it's their way of telling you they’re not a threat. Let’s respect their space and continue to protect these important pollinators. 🐝

Thanks for this.
Two things come to mind:

• how vital bees as pollinators are to the environment and our vegetable resources, and

• how a UK and other communities voted for green roofs on bus stop shelters to encourage bee habitats.

Bees—and yes, frogs too !—are essential to all of our lives.🙏💚🐝🌼
