This #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth, we are remembering #KawaskiTrawick, who was shot & killed by NYPD inside his supportive housing apt in 2019. We echo his family’s demands to remove the NYPD from mental health response + to fully fund non-coercive non-police mental health services.

This #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth we continue to support @nycprogressives #CrisisToCare campaign to invest $61M in NYC’s mental health infrastructure, with a focus on improving care for those in crisis. We call on @NYCMayor to fund these priorities fully to keep NYers safe + well!

All New Yorkers deserve to feel safe. Too often, police escalate crises, harming + traumatizing the very people who need care the most. As the stories of #ImanMorales, #MohamedBah, #KawaskiTrawick, #WinRozario, and far too many others prove, the NYPD is the wrong agency to respond to #MentalHealth.

"People in distress require professional and community support... Instead they are often met with excessive and lethal force from responding police officers."

There is NO place for NYPD in mental health.

Our city is failing our neighbors in crisis. Instead of funding mental health care, NYC sends police to do the work of social workers, EMTs, and therapists.

We need real solutions. We need #CrisisToCare. See @nycprogressives.bsky.social plan here: nycprogressives.com/crisis-to-care/

Mental health first responders & legal aid workers are on the frontlines doing life-saving work in NYC. They don't deserve to be underpaid, overworked, and understaffed.

Our #CrisisToCare plan includes funding for more peer specialists, better pay, and workplace protections.
