Well, THIS was unexpected.
A colour photograph of the old 1800 chimney beyond our deck (we donated the actual farmhouse to the local historical society), with my red studio shed behind, all covered in snow. The background is trees, a meadow filled with 6-7’ tall stickweed (hairy beardtongue? Crowned beard hair? Tonguey neckbeard? I can never remember the name. It’s yellow, and flowers in September), and a volunteer autumn olive that I keep under control.

A little splash of colour for #WildflowerWednesday
Light yellow spikes of locoweed flowers Gorgeous purple spikes of flower clusters - beardtongue growing in sand Bright fuchsia flowers in clusters close to the ground. I think theses are Missouri milkvetch Sculptural green leaves arcing away from a central stem. There is a small cluster of white blooms at the top of the stem. Solomon's Seal

I've doubled the size of my mailbox garden tonight. It's around 20 sq. ft. now. Blue line is the old size, green is the new expansion. Hairy beardtongue, hoary vervain, dense blazing star will be the primary species (same as the original section). I'm also trying wild geranium here. #NativePlants
