Kananginak was born in 1935 at an Inuit camp near Ikerasak, NWT (Nunavut). As a child and young man, he led a traditional life of hunting and trapping. In 1957, he married his wife Shooyoo and moved to Kinngait. There, he began to work with artist James Houston.

Hudson the muskox has something to say...

Those grumbles are one of the many sounds muskoxen use to communicate, from friendly chatter to showing who’s boss.

I could also only find a handful of zoos there, all extremely depressing examples of animal torture, but no muskox. So it makes absolutely no sense to have a whip made from muskox originating in Chechnya, because there are none.

Just learned about the "muskox." Character designer went crazy on this one.

And my favorite animal-to-say-its-name, oomingmak.

Thus ended the extremely good zoo visit. I guess everyone is on vacation this week, because the zoo was quite empty. We got to see everything up close & without being rushed. Yay!

I've never seen or even heard of a muskox before but now I want to learn everything about them! His face at the end🥰 Hudson reminds me of one of the animal characters from the Flintstones.

Muskox are a tough noble arctic animal.

Try muskrat next time.
Muskrats are great animals too but the name is more fitting.

So much yus! I know it was fitting as the Muskox is one of the top 10 smelliest animals in the world. Though it is still unfair for the animal.
City of Yellowknife abdicates responsibility for Elon Muskox’s name

With Elon Musk now a Trump devotee accused of Nazi salutes, the name of Yellowknife's muskox mascot is no longer funny to some. The city appeared to disown it.

#ArtAdventCalendar Day 21: The final animal! Of course, it seems obvious now that the beavers would choose the endangered Haida Ermine as their pile topper. Well done, engineers. And now, to complete this “Solstice Pile of all Canadian Animals” tradition, there’s one last #ArtAdventCalendar post.

#ArtAdventCalendar Day 20 catch-up on Day 21: The wind is swirling around and the newly-added animal looks positively off-balance. I can only reassure myself on the expert calculations of this team of rodent engineers. I wonder what the pile topper will be?

#ArtAdventCalendar Day 11 catch-up. That’s a red flag if I’ve ever seen one! Two, in fact! But is it because of the dangerous animal they just added to the pile…or is something even more dangerous on its way?

My favorite definition of MUSK:

Animal product: Musk can come from the glandular secretions of animals like the musk deer, muskox, musk shrew, and musk beetle. It can also come from the vomit of a sperm whale.

I used to tromp through the woods and bogs to the back side of the University of Alaska Fairbanks’ Large Animal Research Farm to watch the fox kit as they came out of their den to play. Also muskox, cranes, lynx, and a lot of other critters there.
