Recent PlanetScope imagery from @planet.com shows a new 2.6km-long berm that's been built by the IDF in south central Gaza near Kisufim Road. The berm roughly follows the "Yellow Line" that divides IDF-occupied areas and the rest of Gaza. Similar berms are visible elsewhere in the north and south.

🧵 20 years ago tomorrow, we got married in Jordan’s Wadi Rum Desert. We met on E Dock in Seward, AK. We worked for different tour boat companies & one day I offered to take the trash bags she was carrying up the dock for her in my cart. We dated a few months & then ran away on an adventure (1/3)

Probably the worst example is the detention of Nidal Wadi--a Palestinian man who fled Hamas because he’s gay, but was flagged as a national‑security threat and is being held as a prisoner for no reason whatsoever.

Here's a good piece about him (in Bulgarian)

To the Middle East, I asked her to marry me on a roof top Istanbul, then got married several months later in the Wadi Rum. We ended up living in Jordan for 5 years. We traveled a lot then, so many adventures! Came back to AK in 2011 (2/3)

No international reaction to Israel’s admission of killing over 70,000 in Gaza
The international community ought to be acknowledged for its role in blotting out the meaning of genocide since October 2023. Without global complicity, the Geneva Convention’s definition of genoci…

This was not on my bucket list but I married someone with relatives in Jordan, so we visited. Never expected to do that. It was absolutely amazing. Floating in the Dead Sea is surreal. Walking into Petra and getting your first glimpse of the Treasury through the walls of the wadi is breathtaking.
Fuck it I have an engagement bait topic.

We talk a lot about your future bucket list plans that you want to do, but what's something that you checked off your bucket list in the last couple of years.

Bonus points if it absolutely lived up to your expectations.

A day late for Freya Stark's birthday, here's a couple of images from her 1934 journey in Yemen, of which she writes: "When the Roman roads cut the forests & swamps of England, the Arabian trader built his many-storied mansion, crowned its parapet with ibex horns & saw them shine in the morning sun"

I spent this #FossilFriday at Wadi al Hitan in Egypt, a UNESCO World Heritage Site where early whales like this Basilosaurus are hard to miss as they weather out of the Eocene Birket Qarun Formation. (Wadi al Hitan translates as "Valley of the Whales.")
