Asking the right question. Not 'can AI do this?' but 'should it?' The 98% repurchase rate optimizes for satisfaction, but are we creating wine lovers or just efficient consumers? The monastery knowledge survives through technology – but only if we preserve the human art of transmission alongside it.

[3 of 4] My answer? We might be living in a golden age and not realize it because of all the crises in the news. And we’ve seen such a golden age before — so much in technology happened between 2006 and 2008, but it was eclipsed by the global financial crisis.

When Boris (as Mayor) wanted to do his stupid Boris Island Airport project it meant that serious people had to do serious impact assessments of the SS Montgomery.
Mostly to highlight that the reason the answer was "no" was ALWAYS "because the SS Montgomery is there lets not disturb her mkay"

Anyway. Back to the SS Montgomery. Here's what's known to still be onboard her, just idling away there half-submerged in the Thames.

Important to remember that what we've labeled "AI" isn't actually "artificial intelligence".
It's impressive technology to be sure, but the tech doesn't possess nor use any type of intelligence.
And it takes an enormous amount of water and electricity to generate results.

The NO TIME TO DIE problem isn't that Bond is dead in body, but that he's dead in spirit: the whole fucking film is about the idea that the Bond fantasy of bloodless wars through spycraft and technology has only ever been a fig leaf over naked imperialism; Bond is dead in the ideological sense
James Bond’s death in No Time to Die is causing a nightmare for the next film. Writers are stuck because Bond “was blown to pieces.”

“You can't have him wake up in shower and saying it was all a dream."

Very thought provoking idea. I am inclined to believe that it is allowing us to catch the perpetrators with the technology. The sites themselves turn over the information as soon as they spot it. But you made me really wonder of how wide spread this was before.

All us egg heads and we can't come up with a better system? I mean, it was great for the time but our technology has advanced such that we need a better way to catalog our new discoveries and somehow limit the twats.. I'm thinking Thunderdome?

Science and technology are the engines of prosperity. Of course, one is free to ignore science and technology, but only at your peril. The world does not stand still because you are reading a religious text. If you do not master the latest in science and technology, then your competitors will.

True.
But they've had this amazing GOP healthcare plan for years now, kept under the strictest secrecy. Never leaked. Not one part. And it's much better than Obamacare (ACA).
It must be filed in the same room where they keep all the alien technology.
I can't wait to see it. Maybe this week!

advice from your friendly neighborhood time-traveler:
- take your meds, drink some water, unclench your jaw
- nobody can love you quite like yourself.
- in the year 3,091, you get resurrected through frozen dna type technology, like in Jurassic Park, but they mess up & you have an extra leg

Make it silly and go for like, 60 superscience spy nonsense. Bond has died several times, but MI6 has grown him a new body each time using cloning technology of Dr No (who stopped working on it to pursue robotic prosthetics).
Of course technology is imperfect so each body has a new face and voice.

How was he reborn in this future ‘past’ you ask? It has something to do with an advanced technology that stores memories from Fanxian’s past, & transplants them into his new body at birth
I don’t know the mechanics, but it’s a sci-fi premise, in which the mysterious ‘Temple’ plays a storage role

Been telling everyone this exact thing. I'm sorry you don't want to admit that elections can be rigged. But they can. There's technology out there that we as civilians won't even get to see in Hollywood. What makes you think there isn't a way? We can land a machine on Mars.

The first piece, an intro to the series, is by me and Sam Woolley at CTRL.
In it, we describe knowledge as a source of human flourishing created not by lone geniuses, but through infrastructure.
We have reached a new and accelerated phase in the deconstruction of that infrastructure.

Agree that this is good news, but it's an open empirical & theoretical question as to whether others will follow suit. Lots of poli sci research that shows some fossil asset owners choose to double down even in the face of technology shifts.

Yeah, the powered flight to moon landing comparison always kinds of elides that rocket & capsule based space travel was a whole separate technology developed in parallel to attempts to push planes into space and for a while the latter seemed more promising but failed.

This is all true, but a fair counterpoint of technology replacing jobs…
Our unethical socioeconomic model that allows people to drown durning major transitions is a bad thing.
Making a robot do back-breaking labor so a human doesn’t have to is a good thing.
