#TEGNA
An example of the catastrophic failure of legacy news media: McMahon is dismantling the Dept. of Education, and gets a lazy headline & photo op from the Nexstar station in Norfolk. Nexstar is trying to buy Tegna — hoping to own 265 stations and remove all local decisions about news production.

Here's how local Tegna (soon to be another Nexstar station) KGW handled it.

FYI, that’s veteran KGW reporter Catherine Cook in frame. KGW is the best of Portland TV news stations, IMO. It’s disappointing that they have no presence on Bluesky. Have always assumed it’s a Tegna corporate decision, but dunno.
Local authorities have cordoned off a parking lot here at Adventist Health in Portland, right by where federal agents with U.S Customs and Border Protection reportedly shot and injured two people Thursday afternoon. @oregoncapitalchronicle.com

Time to get the TV stations involved. They have 1st Amendment attorneys that can sue to get documents released. TEgnA has one of those attorneys.

They have taken a right turn since Tegna was sold. She keeps talking about Medicaid fraud as if that had anything to do with this woman being murdered.

Seems like the last part about Tegna eliminating all directors with AI is a much bigger story.

Probably fine

And in more depressing news, 9News's owner, TEGNA, is about to be acquired by Nexstar, whose CEO is a massive Trump bootlicker, and who pulled Kimmel off the air last year.

When NexStar finishes its acquisition of TEGNA, you won't be able to do a segment like this.

ICYMI: UCC Media Justice joined a coalition urging the FCC to DENY the Nexstar-Tegna merger.

265 stations, 80% of U.S. markets, one company? That's not media diversity. That's dangerous consolidation.

Unions, Free Press, Echostar, DirecTV, Circle City, pay TV groups and others say deal is not in the public interest, would violate ownership caps

The departure of KENS 5’s Raymond Silva is the latest layoff after the arrival of Tegna CEO Mike Steib, a Google alum and a proponent of incorporating AI into the newsroom.

Nexstar, Sinclair, and TEGNA are right wing propaganda outlets pretending to be local news. They're merging and dominating local broadcasting.

Newsmax is a right wing propaganda outlet pretending to be cable news. They're genuinely worried about propaganda competition issues. hilarious.

Nexstar owns many TV stations, Chicago superstation WGN, The CW, and NewsNation among others. It is currently in the process of buying Tegna, which is a group of 68 TV stations (among other things). Cox tried buy Tegna in 2022 but that fell through. Neither Nexstar nor Tegna are in Pittsburgh.
