Devon's road signs use all sorts of colours and boxes that you won't see anywhere else in the UK. It's all part of a county-wide system to tell you how wide each road is and save you getting stuck between two hedges. Our guide explains it all. #devon www.roads.org.uk/blog/devon-h...

Weren't those woods heavily cleared for use in the Great War effort? I know the woods above Sticklepath (Skaigh warren side) were for both wars. That might explain them being so lacking in trees in the 1920's. 🤔

We went through a town named Sticklepath last week and it has replaced my former top contender, Upper Poppleton, for tweeest English place names.

We have a week in a holiday let in Sticklepath and plan to hire bikes, and maybe get the bus/train down to the coast at some point. (Actual detailed itinerary doesn't exist :)

Yesterday was a bit hectic. Dancing at the Tors, Belstone, then the Devonshire Inn and Taw River, Sticklepath, followed by the King's Arms and village Zayle Fayre in South Zeal, I can confirm that Tinners Morris supported several pub profits ably supported by the ladies of Cogs & Wheels! #authorlife

Oh wow. For the time we lived down there (Sticklepath, near Okehampton) we were lucky to have neighbours who'd lived in the same house for over 50 years and hadn't moved more than 3 miles. Deep roots, and a very particular accent.

Wednesday opening hours have done for one in Sticklepath, but the Taw River Inn was fabulous, great food too. Now in the Kings Arms, South Zeal. Very picturesque area! 😍🍻

However, NNW-SSE Sticklepath-Lustleigh Fault (orange line) is known to be reactivated in the Cenozoic Alpine Orogeny. That ‘neotectonic’ (for the UK) nature, and similarity to other UK ‘quakes source orientations would suggest association with one of the NNW-SSE Sticklepath-parallel trending faults.

As an ex "local" (Sticklepath), both Simmons Park and this one have started in the past few months. My biggest issues will be choosing which, and when and how to fit in both, not the mud? 😆

Well there's a thing. So did I. And was a volunteer for a few years after that. Steve & Mark, the race organisers are mates. I lived in the next village down the valley, Sticklepath.

But it's also very very flat...so I think I might have my work cut out for me. Maybe I'll go visit Belstone or Sticklepath again at some point.
