Host Plant Traits and Site History Shape Root Fungal Endophytic Communities of Sporobolus spartinae After Long-Term Exposure to Contaminants | Phytobiomes Journal
Root fungal endophytes (fungi inhabiting the inside of root cells without any apparent harm) are widely recognized as important symbionts of host plants, providing benefits to the host plant such as water and nutrient acquisition. While endophyte commun...

Today’s #AlwaysBePlanting report, clearance #NativePlants edition: 4x Monarda fistulosa; 6x Sporobolus heterolepis; 6x Parthenium auriculatum; 6x Phlox ‘Rose Bouquet’; & 1x Physostegia virginiana ‘Vivid’. As always, focus on #biodiversity & #February2Frost blooms.

#WeAreAllZoey was enraptured by minty #NativePlants Monarda fistulosa. We also got Sporobolus heterolepis, Parthenium auriculatum, & cultivars Phlox ‘Summer Bouquet’ (long-blooming sterile hybrid) & Physostegia virginiana ‘Vivid’ (shorter & slightly less spready). Not bad for $3 clearance plants! 🌱

#Publication: Our paper led by Marci and Torma, has been published in Insect Conservation and Diversity with the title "Spreading of recently introduced North American sand dropseed (Sporobolus cryptandrus) threatens European native dry grassland arthropods". doi.org/10.1111/icad...
Spreading of recently introduced North American sand dropseed (Sporobolus cryptandrus) threatens European native dry grassland arthropods
The effects of sand dropseed (Sporobolus cryptandrus) invasion on arthropods depended on its density and varied between habitat types and arthropod groups. Vegetation-dwelling, primarily herbivorous...

This is going to be a long list, and I am really excited about this one because it includes some new and hard to find species.

We now have the following available:

- 4" Tall Dropseed (Sporobolus compositus)
- 4" Red Columbine
- 4" Drummond's Clematis (Clematis drummondii)

Leuk (of niet), nu ook rattenstaartgras (Sporobolus indicus) in Rijnsweerd, Utrecht

Late August views from the garden beds. Great Blue Lobelia, Spotted Bee Balm and Prairie Dropseed, Hummingbird Mint, Sneezeweed. Everyone is drooping and flat due to rain. The insects don't mind. 🌱 #nativeplants

Sporobolus heterolepis, commonly known as prairie dropseed, is a species of prairie grass native to the tallgrass and mixed grass prairies of central North America from Texas to southern Canada.

It's finally spreading! Yay. Other native grasses that I planted aren't doing as well.

foxtail pricklegrass (Sporobolus alopecuroides).

Pretty, but introduced.

Got these yesterday at a 100% native local( well, 85 miles away) nursery. I already had planted out so many seedlings from my winter sowing. Just wanted a few big ones to see flowering this year #Nativeplants

I winter sowed Sporobolus. I think one or two shoots are starting to poke up - or it might be some other volunteer.

Me to my husband: "Please note, this is the expensive grass that we paid for on purpose, not the free grass that we are trying to kill." Native prairie dropseed (Sporobolus heterolepus) looks a lot like every other kind of grass when it's small.
March 25, 2025 at 2:27 PM
Grasses are plants too and very important as shelter plants for pollinators. Not a grass expert, but looks a bit like sporobolus sp. there. Maybe a native, maybe not, just had to plug the native grasses.
