After a very disappointing rainfall event (only 0.2" here at the shop, and very dry October), I decided to seek solace in the garden. I came across this bee resting on one of the plant support stake. Feeling better already...

Bush Sunflower (Simsia calva) is an amazingly long bloomer (ours have been blooming non stop since spring) as well as a host plant. And if you are looking for a plant that will cascade over things, look no further.

I was sprayed by this cute thing twice this week. We have one or two skunks living under the office, in close proximity to the office door which causes conflict.

If you like Gulf Muhly (Muhlenbergia capillaris) but are looking for something more compact, Seep Muhly (Muhlenbergia reverchonii) is the perfect substitute. It has the feel of Gulf Muhly at half the size.

Bumble bees are as active as ever. Other native bees are in abundance as well. Liatris species add strong pops of color throughout the garden. Salvia azurea is still blooming and it is very popular with Bumble bees,

Today's highlights from the Pollinator Garden- Texas Gayfeather Liatris mucronata and Tall Goldenrod Solidago altissima. Both have very vibrant colors and both are fantastic for pollinators.

We had some Green Milkweed (Asclepias viridis) root from pots into the ground last year. Today I was happy to see two healthy Monarch butterfly caterpillars munching on it.

The rain has barely stopped, but Bumble bees are already busy pollinating azure Blue Sage (Salvia azurea). We did not get much rain, but between the cooler temperatures and the rain we did get, there is a noticeable difference.
