I'm working today, but my daughter keeps texting me pictures of this huge wolf spider she found in the garage.

A Schizocosa Wolf Spider! Harmless friend :-) put her in the garden, she just wants to help

Today's new friend: Well, I really don't know. Something in the Schizocosa or Tigrosa genus, but some spiders are morphologically too similar to tell apart unless you get a good look at their genitals under a microscope.

A Schizocosa sp. Wolf spider I found a few days ago. I was excited to find him because there aren’t any official records of this genus where I live. I figure it is probably Schizocosa mccooki based on habitus.

#Arachnid folks: I submitted these photos to iNaturalist and there is disagreement as to whether this is Schizocosa or Gladicosa. It's less than 2 cm long, in Coventry CT, and these were the best photos I got before it scooted away. Seen March 14 (& minutes ago in my garage but I didn't get a photo)

Another wolf spider (Schizocosa ceratiola). They were fun to try and photograph because they were absolutely everywhere.

Here's a wolf spider (Schizocosa ceratiola)! these guys were absolutely everywhere. What's really cool is that their eyes are reflective, so at night the sand/soil they live in looks like it has diamonds scattered everywhere.

These Schizocosa always look so sympathetic and hopeful. It's the markings around the posterior median eyes that combined with how big they are look all 🥺👉👈

Wolf spider (possibly Schizocosa mccooki, per inaturalist) chillin' on the porch. 😊🕷️

This is a beautiful spider, but it is not Agelenopsis. Schizocosa sp. wolf spider, if you're in the US.

Ethology: A team led by Malcolm F. Rosenthal explores a novel substrate‐borne vibratory signal in the wolf spider (Schizocosa floridana). They chirp, tap and thump to attract females using their pedipalps, legs, and abdomen. 🕷️ Really cool! 🕷️
