#Renationalise
Renationalise without compensation. The water companies have robbed us for 30 years.
The experts are clear: the new White Paper on Water won't work if it doesn't tackle the root problem - who owns our water in England.

😡The government seems more concerned about 'stability for investors'.

😍Yet 82% of the public want water in public hands. It's time Labour listened.

Labour can't fix broken water system without tackling ownership, experts say
Tougher regulation won’t fix Britain’s water crisis, experts say, while privatisation and investor protections remain in place.

Be v. afraid considering UK gov's refusal to renationalise because it would be 'too expensive'. UK is theoretically 'wet' but incredibly mismanaged by for-profits and foreign interests.

Misspelling "renationalise" there. It was ours to begin with.

We could afford to end all this crisis management if we just taxed the insanely rich. We could also afford to fully renationalise all public services and fund local councils properly so they could maintain schools and social services, build green infrastructure and pay refuse collectors properly.

I no longer see much distinction.

Neither would renationalise water and send the execs to jail.

Neither would stop enabling austerity, fossil fuel and genocide.

Forcing you to pay huge amounts more to corrupt, criminal Water Companies isn't an overhaul.

It is making a terrible system even worse.

Get rid of the Private Water Companies.

Fudging the numbers through sleight of hand and fucking over patients is not the same as actually solving the issues

Renationalise the stolen parts, sack the 3rd party thieves, put medical professionals back in charge and end dodgy contracts

The NHS is not a profit making asset,it's a public service
January 20, 2026 at 1:00 PM
This is what we expect of this austerity government. Choosing not to renationalise monopoly utilities to protect the wealthy asset holders over the wishes of its people.

Indeed: our water companies should not have been recklessly privatised.

But if we renationalise, the huge debts with which the foreign owners have loaded up the water companies would be transferred to us, the tax payers.

There is a better, less simple, solution: bsky.app/profile/layl...
South East Water have done the extraordinary by making Thames Water look good.

The Liberal Democrats have long called for a better regulator to fix our broken water industry.

We are also calling for water companies such as Thames Water to be made a public benefit company.

Yet absolutely nothing on the outrageous profiting from the Water Barons and their investors. Caps on CEOs salaries? Nope. Powers to renationalise if a company messes up? Nope. Its shuffling deckchairs on the Titanic.
January 20, 2026 at 8:11 AM
So what’s to stop private water companies from poaching top staff from this new regulator, just like they do with Ofwat today?
It’s a completely futile gesture.

Renationalise now!

For goodness sake Starmer, stop pussyfooting around and renationalise the whole of the Water Industry.
We are the laughingstock of the World.

Need to do the same for Thames Water. Renationalise.
Thousands left without water in the middle of winter in the UK. And those same people are now facing a massive bill hike.

Privatised water is a scam.

I've written to the Prime Minister asking why he won't end this rip off and bring failing South East Water into public hands.

This is the difference in cost between Public and Private Bus Services.

Now calculate it for Water and Energy.

Stop the theft, Renationalise everything.
January 19, 2026 at 12:55 PM
The economic illiteracy
The absolute refusal to renationalise and fix public services
The continuing degradation of the NHS (still suffering from PFI round one and they're going to do it again!)

Going to Murdoch's party was really all we needed to know but there's so much more.

More evidence to renationalise, especially important infrastructures like the water industry.

According to their own account bio, the role of Ofgem is "to protect consumers now & in the future by working to deliver a greener, fairer energy system".

And yet here they are, producing this thinly veiled threat.

How about stopping energy company profiteering...?

Agree with this post 100%.

But sadly, as with all regulators that start "Of" they are bloody useless.

#Ofwat can decide that South East Water has breached its licence conditions by failing to meet customer service standards obligations.

It has that power.

SEW should be stripped of its licence and its executives fined & charged.

Starmer won't renationalise water, because he's wed to neoliberalism and would rather axe the regulator to encourage foreign investment than allow essential national infrastructure to stray from privateering corporates.

1) The Greens haven’t costed anything! It’ll all be paid for with “wealth tax” & MMT! They have so far promised to renationalise energy & water (at least £500bn) as well as massively increase NHS funding beyond the increases Labour have done, which is austerity apparently. How’s that going to work?

Water Privatisation is NOT a failure.

It is a spectacular success... for them.

Vast profits for a terrible service, for something you will always need.

And if they go bankrupt from vast debts they have stolen

You pay.
