Old Englishwoman, loves the outdoors, the British Isles/Celtic* Archipelago. Sad about the planet. Don’t expect cohesive themes; just what’s on my mind. *Someone mooted this name & I'm going with it.
Somebody needs to see a little former mill race passing under a flagstone bridge.

The driver who killed a passenger in a broken down car was guilty as charged, but Highways needs to admit contributory negligence as 'smart' motorway technology that should have closed the lane had been inoperable for days. If they can't minimise this risk, maybe they need to restore hard shoulders.
Van driver guilty over fatal M4 smart motorway crash in Berkshire
Barry O'Sullivan killed 68-year-old Pulvinder Dhillon after driving into a stationary car on the M4.

Biased TV News outlets can get around fairness rules by declaring themselves to be entertainment, rather than news (e.g. GB News). This has got to stop. If a reasonable person would call it News, it is news and should follow the rules for news, especially when giving politicians air time.

Note to Building regs people: When developing areas riddled with old mineworks or prone to subsidence, insist on a ground penetrating radar survey before developers are allowed to go ahead.

The Covid inquiry reminds me my daughter wrote this song when we were all locked down and wild animals roamed the streets in our absence. The "me" in the song is us all, explaining to the planet that we know what we've done.

Watching BBC daytime scam-awareness TV. I don’t understand how there is a re-seller market for disability blue badges. Don’t stolen badges go on a database, so that traffic wardens can scan them, flag them as fake or stolen and the car owner be prosecuted?

Rachel Reeves said those on just State pension will continue to not pay any income tax. But if you have even a tiny work pension, you will pay tax not just on that, but also on the part of the State pension that is above the basic tax threshold. Basic Tax/NI thresholds have not kept up with incomes.

'Trump will be gone in three years': Top Democrats try to reassure Europe. But will he, though? And look at all the nutjobs he's elevated; they will try to keep their version of the USA going; some of them in order to avoid jail.
Democrats seek to reassure Europe about post-Trump America
Opposition politicians flocked to a summit in Munich to offer an alternative to America First - and stake a claim as future party leaders.

I've always been rather annoyed that ADHD was 'double-D'd'. 'Deficit' where I see hyperfocus and boredom. 'Disorder' where I see a personality type useful to society, if difficult for the individual in a modern setting. How much does society lose with its feckless handling of neurodifferences?
Rethinking ADHD as ‘hypercuriosity’
What if ADHD isn’t a deficit of attention, but an intensified curiosity? A new study explores how reframing ADHD could transform education

Cat-sitting. Cat ambience on YouTube is trial and error, but this one's a definite success, no ads, 8 hours long and the cats love it. So do I, to be honest!

If our government doesn't like van dwellers, they should legislate to provide affordable housing, you know, as if they were Labour. Bristol counts its van dwellers and numbers have quadrupled since the onset of covid. Sometimes I think we need an "eyesore" not evicting them to somewhere out of sight

The concentration of asylum seekers in hotels dehumanises them. It was such an unnecessary and expensive solution, one may be led to suspect that this effect was deliberate and hoped for. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
