Civilianization of police response should be sold to the public on grounds it understands, efficiency and cost. Hiring a 911 response contractor to handle traffic accidents made police much better at their job and also it costs less.

NOPD has been committing more manpower to traffic enforcement since February 2024 in response to community demands for improved road safety.

New Orleans might have a sheriff (center) who was suspended six times by the NOPD, once for pouring transmission fluid into another officer's house and throwing rocks at their windows. Our sheriff runs the jail.

The actual answer is, regardless of how they carefully respond to this question during campaign events, they will inevitably give NOPD whatever it asks for

I don’t disagree. We were asked to give NOPD discretion to do enforcement because of manpower (setting expectations) then the Mayor held a press conference saying everything was coming down and they’d be kicking in tents like Elliot Ness.

Enforcement is a mess w/ this type of mixed messaging.
