#MiddleMarchMadness
nice! hmm yeah could maybe hack leaflet for this kind of thing (& we should build better things for communities!) but maybe nothing quite perfect yet for cozy community space on atproto

lowest friction…just do on bluesky? I saw a good example w/ just a hashtag (`middlemarchmadness`) & emoji (hut)

Can recommend D checks out the #MiddlemarchMadness 🛖 hashtag from 2024. Lots of interesting commentary!

Too bad I missed this. I need to get back to the Blue Sky book-club-read-alongs. #MiddlemarchMadness was fab.
Welcome, July Borges readers! Below is the reading schedule.

Perhaps controversially, I've omitted page numbers and instead used story names, as we're unlikely to all be reading from the same collection, translation, or in the same language. Let me know if you need additional navigation cues. 🪞

Probably a three-way tie. The book I’m trying to reread every year is “Riddley Walker.”
“Persuasion” hit me hard in my late teens. (A level English Lit set text.)
I finally read “Middlemarch,” last year, as part of #MiddlemarchMadness. 🛖
Please don’t make me choose one.

Finished this today and feeling very grateful for March and Middlemarch and my dumb but also wonderful MiddleMarchMadness *thing.*

As evidenced by the state of my copy, I have already tried this MANY times, but this year is the year, dammit. Tomorrow, I start MiddleMarchMadness and read this everyday of March until both the month and novel are over.

Here we go!

It's nearly March, folks--so is anyone else planning to rerun #MiddlemarchMadness 🛖?

I’m confident I’m will! 🙂 My Partner-in-Crime is a big fan.

It took me years to get around to Middlemarch (during last year’s #MiddlemarchMadness 🛖). This may be my year of the Brontës. One big novel by each sister is my goal.

(As near as I can tell, a catchy name is huge in persuading people to go with a particular book. I doubt we would have read Middlemarch without @harrisj.bsky.social proposing MiddleMarchMadness.)

A reminder that @amndw2.bsky.social is hosting Mrs. Dalloway for July. #HotFrankSummer, #MiddleMarchMadness, and #AMonthofDick will continue to be active, too. The fun doesn't end! 💐

I was saving this for the end #AMonthOfDick, but I fell too far behind. Same with #MiddleMarchMadness. But I managed to keep up with #HotFrankSummer every day, so now I’m celebrating finishing all three books. 🐋 🛖 🔩

I'm reading "The Age of Innocence" as a kind of follow-up to #MiddleMarchMadness and wow this could have been written today.

We had #MiddlemarchMadness in March, Eye of the Needle going on now, and Gravity’s Rainbow 🌈 in September.

After challenging myself to write every day in February I decided to do #MiddlemarchMadness to keep the daily challenge train going. Since finishing Middlemarch on April 25th I've begun a new challenge, studying Spanish daily in anticipation of a family trip to Spain this summer!
I really did it, I wrote every single day in February. I expected to produce a ton of material for my current chapter and some future chapters, and I did. But what surprised me most about this exercise is what it taught me about what factors are or aren't conducive to my writing.
National Novel Writing Month may be November but I write non-fiction and November is a chaotic month in my hardest semester so I'm setting the goal of writing every day in February, let's see how this goes!

Well I didn’t stay on the #MiddlemarchMadness timeline today I finally finished it so now I’ll be going back and liking weeks of skeets about Dodo and Ladislaw. 🛖🛖

Bulstrode and Lydgate in a nutshell. #MiddleMarchMadness
April 22, 2024 at 10:35 PM
We’ve split up the book over 6 weeks and we have a hashtag/emoji that people can use to comment on the text. See MiddlemarchMadness for instance. All you have to do is say you want to take part in it to be added to the approved users list

@markpopham.bsky.social set up both the MonthofDick and the MiddleMarchMadness feeds, so perhaps they could point you in the right direction (like giving you the key terms to google).

And so thank you to everyone who organised and contributed to #MiddlemarchMadness. It was a joy to revisit after such a long time away, made extra-special by following everyone's reflections. And yes, I think it's the greatest novel in the English language. 🛖

I think a good name is key. I'm terrible at such things but @harrisj.bsky.social came up with "MiddleMarchMadness" and might be able to help out when you decide which direction you're heading.
April 15, 2024 at 1:53 AM
I must admit, now that I am in the home stretch of #MiddlemarchMadness, that every time I read a sentence like this about Caleb Garth I hear "business" in the voice of Sam the Eagle.

It’s been marvelous to share #MiddlemarchMadness with all of you on the feed! Can’t wait to get into the next Great Big Novel with you all!

#MiddlemarchMadness ch 84. “Dear Celia,” said Dorothea, with tender gravity, “if you don’t ever see me, it will not be my fault.” Right on, Dodo! They're all acting like Dodo is marrying to insult them, while she's just following her course. Right fucking on.
